Just a page that shows what I can do. I made it for reviews, which are easily added via newspro.
Stuff you don't see: When no picture name is given, it automatically shows the 'no pic yet' gif. All SSI, CGI templates and SHTML are at the same 'depth' so I dont have to fill in full urls, a ../../pictures/picname.gif is enough. So when I move servers, all I have to do is change 3 lines per cgi script, and I'm done.
SSI consists out of 4 parts, one header, one navbar, one bottom and one 'affiliates' bar, which is located under the header. Sure it hasn't got a lot of room for affiliates, but only stores or the site that hosts me will be placed there.
I hope somebody can name some of the good points, and a lot of bad points (I'm kind of a perfectionist) so I can make an even better one next time.

that's a great design, I like it, very nice :D
but are you gonna put all your updates in the middle? if so, you have to think that it will take a lot of space, and it's gonna go way down, so you have to put a "back to the top" button at the bottom. another lil tiny detail, a "home" option the the "main" would be helpful, so your visitors can come back to the main page easily... and finally you should write a little text on what your site is all about, for the visitors that have no idea where they landed to! that's all I have to say, you did a great work with this design, I couldn't do better! :)

Yeah, I made a apge what my site is about, but haven't linked it yet. Also, 'news' is the main page, and I'll make the header link to it too.
And I will only put the last 10 or 15 news articles (which won't use a lot of space) on the news page, the rest will be archived, just that idon't have anything to archive for now, the site's not even launched yet)
The software I use may suprise you.. I use plain Jasc Paint Shop Pro 6 for my graphics (get it, it's the best) and Frontpage 2000. I know basic HTML, but I only use it to edit stuff manually, like for the SSI. I've tried dreamweaver, but I got used to Frontpage 2000 too much to swich..
It's really not that hard, just play around a LOT, don't use .jpg when having text in you pics, and try to use a certain pallette of colors. My site is grey toned, with blue as an 2nd color. When you use too much colors, the design will look worse.

Why shouldn't you use .jpg? I like .jpg, it loads fast and most of the time for me, it is the better quality when I put it on the web.

Cool site  but if you want to be like the pros I suggest dreamweaver 4 ultradev and Photoshop 6.0 which are both the best in the league. give them a try :D
