It's about a girl that enters a book called "Shi jin tenchi sho" and ends up in a world similar to China in the past. There she is known as the "Suzaku no miko", she must reunite the 7 "seishis". The seishis are persons that have a kanji in some part of their bodies. But then the girl (Miaka) discovers that her best friend, Yui, was also transported to the world of the book, but now she is the "Seiryuu no miko", working for the other kingdom, and that means they are now enemies...
The series IS REALLY GOOD. It's very dynamic, and it has lots of interesting characters and relationships...

I haven't seen the series( though I intend to) I hear it's very good. It's like the Tenchi series although it's 6-7 guys an one girl. There are funny funny scenes, but there is also romance in it and evil, and violence scenes.

The series is pretty good overall. I though 52 episodes was a little too long though. The characters are one of the best parts of FY, although some aren't developed that much. And if you watch it, you'll quickly get tired of, "Tamahome...", "Miaka...", "Tamahome...", "Miaka...", "Tama..." You'll see what I mean. I would advise you to watch it.

I love that series. I still have to watch the 10 last eps thought... it's really addictive, but if you don't like the relationships type animé, or the "I can't love you, but I still do" ones, it's not really for you...

and yes, the "Tamahome" "Miaka" calling is really repetitive and sometimes really annoying...

but the fighting scenes kick ass! ^^ but there's not much of them thought. it's still one of my fave animés ^^

Yes, I agree completely with the addictive thing. Every episode is a cliffhanger and it's torturous waiting for the next tape, but this series is worth it, I promise. It's amazing, very entertaining, and emotional. It starts out very goofy and funny but buy the second season I was crying practically every episode. I'm not so fond of the OVAs but the little parady thingies they include in there are hilarious.

Fushigi Yuugi is one of my favorite anime series, but I wouldn't recomend it to anyone who gets bored quickly. They have a habit of repeating things over and over again ("I... I love you Tamahome! *gasp* *faints*", *big wavery eyes*, and of course, "Tamahome!" "Miaka!" "Tamahome!" "Miaka!")

Hmmm... okay, they say "Tamahome" and "Miaka" a lot, but... the main reason why I like this series is because it NEVER GETS REPETITIVE.

>the main reason why I like this series is because it NEVER GETS REPETITIVE.< Gabo-kun

Plot wise it doesn't get repetitive....... but i have to agree with those who have pointed out that "Miaka" "Tamahome" calling does get very repetitive.... I love the series and all but you don't notice that part untill someone else points it out to you..... I'd have to say i recommend the series to anyone whos into drama.

I love this series, but sadly do not own it. Also, amazingly enough, I didn't find any problems with it (except the first OAV....but I have to keep telling myself that it doesn't exist).

As for length....52 episodes isn't really all that much. Some series like Kenshin, Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z and others have episode counts somewhere between 70 and 100+. Admittedly there are a lot of series that only have 10-40 episodes, but there are also a good number that have "high" episode counts.

Sailormoon had 200 episodes.... It had five seasons, what did you expect? Lets see, that would make.... 40 episodes per season, about....

FY is definitely a great series! I've seen all 52 episodes, and I must admit, there are a few spots that seem to drag on. The shows does deal with a few serious issues, but is still a great mixtures of comedy, action, drama, and bishounen! :D

I think it's pretty good. The action, comedy and romance resembles Sailormoon, which is why I kinda got into it. I havent seen all of it though.

I was glancing at my anime collection and found a couple of tapes I had never watched before!
One was FY, so I popped it in.... and I loved it!
Even though I've only seen the first 4 episodes, I'm sure the rest will be great and recommend it to anyone.
