I just checked out the dub of Ranma season 4. The new Ranma actor sure takes some getting used to. I liked the old voice better. Do they ever get the old voice back.

Yup, Ranma's newer dubb is _really_ bad. . *sweatdrop* Well, at least compared to his previous one. . in my opinion.

As far as I know, they keep the current dubb voice for him. . it sounds alright after awhile, I s'pose. . but he still sounds like a weak cry-baby now. . ^^;;;

His voice is much. . much worse. . ^^;;

Though. . you can get used to it given enough time. .

Personally, I have a hard time watching the dubbed series because I can't stand his new voice either :(

I wish they would get the old voice back too... but the subtitled versions are the best!! :)

You won't lose interest but it's kind of annoying at first. But you get used to it. At least it's a slow transition because Ranma hardly ever talks in the first two eps of season 4.

hmm anyone know why they changed it anyway?

kagura
10-04-01, 11:29 PM
maybe they changed it because they realized how retarded dubbed ranma sounded so they tried to get him a better voice... and failed. oh yes they failed, they failed miserably. dubbed ranma is bad. very bad. in any season. dubbing is evil.
here's a question for you:
why does Ranma sound retarded in the dubbed version?
answer: who the hell knows. i don't watch dubbed....

Not sure. Maybe the person just got tired of doing that dub or something ... ... [shrug] Sux for him.

I don't like the one for season 1, they make him sound like he's 18.. I suppose, they just make him sound worse.

Maybe they changed his voice because they realize that they'll never, ever be able to make his voice sound as sexy as the Japanese voice, so they figure if they keep changing it no one will notice that much...

Ranma's dubbed voices are baaaaaaaaaaaad... He sounds.....metally disabled. :P

Ahh, quit dub bashing. There's nothing wrong with the Ranma dub. You guys just want something to complain about. If YOU don't like it, fine. But I don't see anything wrong with it and it's not nice to insult it.

weren't the first 3 dubbed seasons voiced by a woman. Sarah something wasn't it? I just watched the first tape of the OAV and I could swear its the voice dub from the first three seasons.

Maccy99
22-07-01, 07:06 PM
Yes, the voice is a woman's. And yes, the OAV's are the same as the first three seasons. But seasons 4 through 5 have a new voice. Don't ask me why but they dubbed the OAV's and Movies before they had finished the tv series.

Actually, there is a reason that they got a new voice, same as the reason for the newer voice they got for Ranma-chan at season 2.

In the episode 'You're such a Jerk, Ranma!', at the end of Season 4, Akane mentions the fact that Ranma and his dad have been living with the Tendos for 2 years. The other Ranma voice sounds young and I think that they're trying to show how the character age in the anime since in the anime alot of things happen that didn't in the manga.

Since in the anime the characters visibly get older (Compare Ranma and Akane from Season 1 to Season 5), Viz probably felt they needed to age the voice of Ranma.

There are a lot of people who are into the "dub bashing" and with most dubs, I totally agree...but not on Ranma (in general anyway--I don't like the new Ranma voice either :() I would imagine that there are a lot of fans like myself, who normally watch anime subtitled but have a few titles they enjoy dubbed as well, thus we really don't need to be "enlightened" on the matter of subtitles since we're pretty familiar on the subject. But thanks for the thought. :)

OK, moving on...which season is season 4? ("Outta Control," etc) Because I thought they had a new voice for a while, then switched back to Sarah Strange doing it. I could be very, very wrong, though. In fact, I probably am... :D

No, I have most of season 5 and they're still using the newer Ranma voice (Which I like, except for all of the 'aint's'.)

Tenchi-san

that sucks. I like the old Ranma voice a lot better. It just sounds cooler. At the only anime store near me they have an outta control tape called "You bet your dojo" or something like that on sale and I want to get it but that new voice just hasn't grown on me yet.

Now that I've gotten used to the voice, I actually like it as much as the first one.

allright I'm gonna watch my "great expectations" tape again to see if I can get used to it.

Aw, really? Damn. Oh well, I just ordered the first one from season five on DVD. I love Ranma either way. And if the new voice gets to me too much, I'll just watch the subbed...

so thats what that dvd is. I planned on buying it next week but I didn't even know what it was. I thought it was a new Ranma series or something. I wish they would have done the first and second seasons first.

The original voice for Ranma-chan was Brigitta Dau. The first voice for Ranma-kun was Sarah Strange. They both left (though at different times) for the same reason- they wanted to do something other than VA work. It had nothing to do with age progression. (that 2-year bit is anime-only, which mysteriously parallels how long the series had been going on).

Kodachi's first VA was Teryl Rothery, and she quit to do more in Stargate1. Can't remember why the second Kodachi VA quit, and haven't heard enough of the 3rd one to know if I want her to stay.

Nabiki's old VA was Angela Costain, and is replaced in Season 6 by her sister Elaina- who sounds almost exactly like her. Angela left to go to flight school, IIRC.

Starting with season 6, the DVD and VHS are coming out simultaneously. Season 1 DVDs are due later this year, so put them on your Christmas list.

Cool. I had heard that Nabiki sounded exactly the same through the whole series. So thats why:rolleyes: I'm definitely getting the first seasons on dvd.

When I first got my hands on season 4 Ranma's new voice was quite a distraction but you get used to it, furthermore the quality of the Ranma dub is more than adequate.
