I love RK!!! In my opinion it is THE greatest anime series (behind Evangelion, of course). I think it deserves its own forum. I just love the series so much because it is so funny (OROOOOOO????) and it also has extremely serious parts. The second fight between Kenshin and sanosuke just left me in awe because it was sad and exciting at the same time. And the fight between kenshin and Saitoh in episode 29/30 is the GREATEST anime swordfight ever. I just want to know what everyone else thinks about RK, maybe if there's enough feedback we can get kenshin its own forum!

Yay!!! Good idea! We need a forum for Kenshin. Have you seen the OAVs? (Very great story) Well, I haven't seen much of the Kenshin series (1-25 and oav 1-4), so I can't say too much about the series. But it is a great one. I just hope Samurai X doesn't come out for real (Sony).

I've seen the first OAV, and it was really good. I want to see the others, but I guess I'll have to wait until ADV releases them as "Samurai X". At least there'll still be a subbed version of it so they won't change chars names or anything. The thought of the dub makes me shudder...
Oh well, at least it should get a good audience especially if it gets put on tv. You should see more of the TV series. I've seen about half. The Kyoto Arc is really good, that starts in episode 28, i think.
count me in!
i think ive seen most of the series, and based on what you said about the Greatest, wellll, so far it is. but if you wanna see a Real Sword fight, my advice is KEEP ON WATCHING - also, if you havent finished the "Flaming Mummy" or Shishio saga, stay away from the RRK Grestest Fighting Collection - its one big spoiler (one of my regrets).

Yup, thank god for the subbed version ^_^;;
but do you really think they could show the OAV series on tv without massive editing, which would ruin it? Oh, and do you know how many episodes are in the Rurouni Kenshin series?

They probably won't show the OAVs on tv, after editing they'd be like 5 minutes long, hehe. There's 94 episodes to kenshin and a 95th episode that was never aired.
There's also a movie that I havent seen yet.
Is the fight between Shishio and kenshin better than the one where Kenshin fights saitoh?
hey, the dub sounds quite well. Good voices - especially when Kenshin goes "Hiten Mitsurugi Style":B:. In the dubbed version he sounds like a girl (a woman really did his voice).

I just think that Kenshin's voice from the original is awesome. He sounds so cool.

Yeah, you're right. I wish I could get ahold of the RK manga. Hopefully they'll release them translated later on.
Yes, Kenshin is on my favourite anime list...I get to see it weekly at the local anime club. Just one question, I have a few Kenshin music videos and there seem to be two differnet series...the one I see is where he stays at a Budo and theres a guy with a huge sword...the other one has really detailed animation and drawings...looks totally different....

Hmm... the one where he stays at a budo and there's a guy with a really big sword is probably the Rurouni Kenshin TV series I've seen. The guy with the big sword is probably Sanosuke. I'm not really sure about that other series, do they have the same characters?

Does Kenshin have his 'x' scar yet, in the series that has better animation and drawings?

Yes, he has the scar. The 'better animation' version seems to be a bit more of a drama, no funny lines or animation...

Weird, is it still called Rurouni Kenshin or does it have a little different name?
Still called Rurouni Kenshin....I think it may be the OAV I just read about

It probably is, he gets his scars in the first OAV and it's not funny at all. Kenshin is just an extremely serious assassin.
In the first one it starts where he's just a kid and his parents get killed and some guy rescues him and makes him his apprentice. I've only seen the first OAV, there are 4 total.

He gets one scar in the first OAV. The last OAV ends (near the end) with Kenshin getting his second scar (two scars for the 'x').
And, yeah, it's doesn't have jokes. Very dark. Serious. And it has realistic animation.

Does anyone know how much of RK is based on real events.
Was there really a Hitokiri Battousai that helped to usher in the Meiji Era?
and were there really that many people who wanted to overthrow the new government?
I've tried to find out online, but all I find are anime fansites and I cant find any books at my library either.

Um. . .gee. . .I'll see what I can find out. I'll either get an answer, or not, by tomorrow.

Cool. Good luck.
I know quite a bit of it is based on fact, but I'm curious about how much. I know Ishin Shishi, Shinsen Gumi, etc. were real. I wonder about the Sekihou Tai.

I saw the 1st 2 OAV's b4 the series and became quite confused. I hadn't known anything about Kenshin previously.
In the OAV's Shinta becomes renamed Kenshin and after time rolls on there's this assassin doing what he does best, whom people called Himura. It took a while for me to figure his full name was Himura Kenshin and the kid grew to be the assassin.
The OAV animation is superb and I found the story nicely paced and had great feeling. Kenshin sleeps with his sword and when a girl sees he's cold and attempts to adjust his blanket, Kenshin draws and raises the sword, ready to kill.......
The series seems more childish with stereotypical baddies. Jin-e was an evil bastard, and I qoute him:' HAHAHAHHAH MWAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!' Kenshin shows up just in time for the flute music to play and baddies to slay. I like the historical references which give Kenshin some educational value.
To sum up: Kenshin is pretty damn cool.

i know for a fact that the Tokugawa regime, Meiji govt. along with the X'tian persecution were real. I also read somewhere that there was this gread swordsman who lived but he was not a killer (forgot his name)

let me just add to what ive said above...
this info was shown at the ending of RRK OVA 2 (Tomoe story).
"In closing:

from what was said, it seems there was indeed a historical Battousai... as for the great samurai i previously mentioned, i'll try to find that book...
