What are your favourite anime music pieces? Can include Opening/Closing themes, music from anime, or music off a soundtrack.

I like most of the Evangelion soundtracks, but Komm Susser Todd is definatly my favourite. I like the opening from Rurouni Kenshin, Slayers, Ah My Goddess, Cowboy Bebop and Dragon Ball Z......

I must admit, I'm a sucker for Anime theme music.

I love much of the Eva music: Rei 1 and 2, Kom Sosser Todd,
Thanatos, etc.

There's a Gun Smith Cats track I've gotta find and I quite like the Shamanic Princess music (mostly the end theme), and Neo Ranga opening theme.

2 Gunsmith cats song i like a fair bit. I am yet to hear a slayers song i do not like (in fact im yet to hear a song by Megumi Hayashibara that i do not like).

Some of the stuff from Serial Expereiments Lain is very good.
Im currently reviewing some Nuku Nuku songs (yet to actually hear them though)

well so far, those currently in my possession are S2 works, a lot of RRK, a few Fushigi Yuugi, and an OMG cd plus i have two DBZ mp3's and a macross mp3 - why these in particular? well its because i love'm all - though i'm still on the lookout for other good titles.

now i have to make a confession here. before eva, i didnt listen to music, i didnt collect music, etc. but after watching Eva (last year) i decided to spend on my first audio cd collection which is the S2 works, and ever since i've become an "audiophile" - proof? Ive blown my original speakers and 3 earphones. Currently, I have a new set of earphones which are doing relatively well. oh, and one last thing - can you tell the difference between an MP3 and a cd?

Was "Zankokuna Tenshi no These" (Eva opening) written just for evangelion or was it a popular Jpop song the creators decided to use?

"Zankokuna Tenshi no These" is translated to "Cruel Angel Thesis," right? I'm pretty sure, but I wanted to doublecheck.

I'm a bit of a sucker for NGE music. My fav's would have to be Thanatos (any version) and most of the instrumental music on S2 Works. I, too, never listened to music, but when I read in a catalouge that S2 works was available, I had to spend all my savings on it. Money well spent. I'm partial to anime music videos as well. I hate the song 'Larger than Life', but when I saw the film clip using scenes from eva to go with it, it seemed alright. I used to never listen to music. It was a waste of time. Now I can't seem to get a tune out of my head. I'm helping a freind make a movie and I find several places where anime music would fit perfectly. I subconciously even (shame) wrote a humorous song to the music of 'Be my Guest' from Beuty and the Beast.

I listen to the Neon Genisis songs to relax, or when nothing else is on, or when I really feel like it. I mainly listen to Disc 04, 05 or 07 in the S2 works box, though. Sometimes I'll go through the others when nothings happening. I think I listened them to death when I got them. Every time I opened my door my brother would get blasted with Thanatos, or my sister would be blown away with Rei's theme.

i think its called ODE TO JOY and its WAY better to listen to on good earphones with your eyes closed!

Trust me...Ode to Joy is by Beethoven. My father is a high school music teacher and I learnt a bit...

The music when Asuka is being 'raped' by the airborne angel is indeed Handel's Messiah and the music when Asuka is fighting the Mass produced Evas in EoE is Air on a G String (snigger) by Bach....

Thanks to Martin/Molloy, I found that it was Beethoven who did it. Pete smith was in a Stereo Sound check bit, when he skated over (don't ask) to ABC FM. They were playing that music from NGE and Pete commented "Ah, now that's Music! Beethoven's classic Theme from the Old Spice commercial'"
A voice over man for two humorous DJ's may not be a reliable source, but that's all I've got right now.

OK so it was a bad translation. A good try though. In the version of EoE I saw there was end credits with 'Jesus ...' playing.

All the music in EoE is nice. When I listen to it I think of the scenes that they were used in......

I think the general consensus on this would be, no, when its translated it sucks (mainly because the english vocalists suck)

I have however found one exception, though it is very limited.

Some of the Tenchi stuff, OAV ONLY, is not bad when done in english. However, the stuff from Tenchi universe, umm yea well avoid that like the plauge, it does not get much worse than that.

Air is by Bach, and Ode to Joy, I.E. Symphony No. 9 was already pointed out.

I have to say that EVA holds my favourite music of all time. I never, ever stop listening to it... I think my favourite is definetly either Zankokuna Tenshi No These or Tamashii No Refuran.

On the subject of dubbing songs... did anyone see Manga Entertainment's dub of Macross Plus? I've seen both the dub and the sub. When they dubbed Myung's song, I was surprised at how faithful they were! Obviously, the original is better... but if they HAVE to dub a song, that's how I think it should be done!

Kokoro yo Genshi-ni Modore (Restore the Original Heart) or something like that?

They're both sung by Takahashi Yoko and both are pretty good. You should be able to find them on the EoE Singles Cd.
I wouldn't recommend buying it unless your a diehard Eva fan because the cd only contains those 2 songs in vocal and karaoke (no vocals) versions... meaning 4 tracks for about 15USD!

Out of all the Tamashii's, I'd say my fave was the Tabris mix. Very, very subtle differences to the original, though... but the ending is great. I thought Winamp had cacked up! Very original.
However, when I got it, I was kinda expecting Kaworu to be singing it... that would been kinda cool.
Besides, I much prefer the guitars in the Tabris mix to those in the original. (And I think it had a meaning too - that Tabris may have been an angel, but he was almost exactly like the rest of us - reflected in the subtle differences between the original and the Tabris mix.)

'Sides, Tabris was my fave angel, and Kaworu was my favourite pilot... (Asuka came pretty damn close tho!)

I mean, he only appeared in ONE episode of Eva but he seems to make a very big impact and he also seems to be a popular character despite his single appearance.

By the way, he's also one of my favorites too!

Man...The sound track of Evangelion rocks. I like Tammashii no Refuran, Jesus bleibet meine Frueud (My favourite!!!), and basically the all of the songs from that series. I also listen to the Rurouni Kenshin sound tracks. They are pretty cool. My favourite for that series has to be "1/3 no Junjou na Kanjou" by Siam Shade if anyone has heard of it. Also the sound track on Sailor Moon R isn't bad.

How about Ranma sound track? Anybody like the music on that? I personally think it is good and nice. Care to Comment?

Well, as I've said before, my favourite peice of music of all time has to be 4th Movement, Symphony no. 9. The melody (Ode to Joy) is beautiful, and the peice fits any mood. Happy, sad, angry, tense, ANYTHING - especially depending on what part you listen to. I always associated it with happiness (The title and the fact my parents got married to it), but when I saw the Tabris battle, I realised it fitted well with rousing battles and suspense.

As Kaworu himself said, "The song is good. I think that song is the highest acheivement of the Lilim culture, don't you agree?" ;)

Their Eva S2 7cd package only costs $55...
That's a good deal considering that it contains Eva OST's 1-3, Eva D&R OST, EoE OST, and an additional cd with extra Eva music. Same thing for all their other stuff too.

A$200 is a reasonable price PROVIDING YOU GOT THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE VERSION produced by King Records (comes with limited edition Eva phone card). That's the price I charge for 'em.

If, however, you got the SonMay version (that's the one Anime Castle sells) or the Ever Anime version, then I'm afraid you got ripped ^^; Of course, if you bought it in Newcastle, then I'm not surprised you paid that much...it's a bit of the old supply and demand in operation I guess :)

Good taste in music, Pen2! End of EVA is a damn fine CD, and Tanin no Kanshou/Manatsu no Shuen is one of the best tracks on it.

I have just had the fortune of seeing El Hazard and getting one of the OST's, and for anyone familiar with it, wasn't Boys be Good/Back in Love great? Trying to find a translation to Conquerer Jinnai, tho.

I would hav eto disagree, that ending song for El-Hazard is not the best to listen to, in eithr english or japanese.

probly because the girl who sings it is that stupid lesbian girl who is just there for fanservice, and i pray for the day when Ifirit kicks her in the head, sending her into the setting sun.

other than that El-Hazard is actually quite good.

it was written by Bach, and the title translates as
"jesus will always be my joy"
it's from "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, BWV 147 (cantata 147?) [1723]

nge has good music - suitable, but not good as real "music".
the classical stuff is used sooo well, and i especially like the very last sad song in eoe (jume no sukima)

Probably been mentioned before, but I really love the opening theme to Martian Successor Nadesico - "You Get To Burning" (Wonderfull grammar there!) and all the variations of it in the show. Not too keen on that ending theme, though... and am I right in thinking that a lot of the music in show-within-a-show Gekiganger is intentionally bad?

Also, I haven't included classical music. I class it as the composer's work rather than the series. If I classed it as the series, Ode to Joy and Jesus Bleibet Meine Freude would be in there.
