If this show was heavly edited when it was shown on TV (whitch I never got to see :( ) does that mean that the DVDs are also edited?
If not are the DVDs worth getting?

Get the subbed which is not edited at all. The dubbed (with the horrible voices) is edited. I'm not sure if it's as bad as the version on Foxkids, but the subbed is always better.

I tried watching the FOXkids version, but it was crap. Thank God I got the whole series in subtitles since it wasn't edited for one thing and I didn't have to sit there and listen to the crappy dubbing job they did.
BTW, Escaflowne only lasted about a month in FOX kids before they canceled it
grab the subtitles...not only you'll enjoy it unedited and hear japanese voices but also you'll learn some japanese ^_^
I've never seen the dubbed or cut version, and dubbing really doesn't bug me as much as the bigger issue of teh hack job Fox did on it. I heard the whole first episode was cut (since it was too girly apparently) and several flashback sequences were cut and pasted into terrible order.
To quote that review (edited):
"The main theme of FOX's editing was to change the show into that, one that focused on Van and Escaflowne, not Hitomi. The first thing they did was cut the entire first episode. Continuity and making sense doesn't matter to them...it doesn't matter that viewers will be confused when they first tune into the show. Why did they throw out the first episode? Too school girly-ish. Guess what, Hitomi just happens to be one, and she's the main character! You know those little flashback scenes that you saw in the first and sixth episodes of the show aired? They actually happened. Not to mention that by adding in those flashbacks, they had to cut out even more scenes.
Episode 4 continues with more foreshadowing cuts, in addition to multiple snippets to get more commercial time. The next episode ...they manage to fit not only all of episode 6 of the original, but most of episode 7 as well! From now on the whole axis of the show is messed up, because an episode of the original no longer corresponds to one on FOX. Two of the most character development filled episodes, 19 and 20, are squeezed into a single episode, slicing out over a half a dozen different scenes...Most of the edits came from episodes 6, 7, 16, 17, 19 and 20 for those who want to know. Its good to see that when they reached the end, the edits became much better, especially in the final 6 episodes. "
The DVDs are unedited...
I think the DVDs are pretty much worth getting, they got some extras, 're easier to browse around on and it's bilingual.

The DVDs are soooo worth getting! You get to see the eps dubbed uncut, subbed uncut and just plain japanese uncut. I already have 2 of the DVDs and saving up my money to buy another one.

Where's the best site/place to buy them from? Cause I heard that if they're less than $30 then it's a bootleg (crap copy). Or is that just the music cd's?
I'll list a couple of webstores that got them...
They're cheaper then $30 and ain't a copy that's for sure...

The only version you have to worry about is the one that says either FOX version or FOX Kids version. Everything else, including the dub, sub, vhs and dvd are completely unedited.
I also noticed that it was one of my very own essays quoted earlier :D

Yeah, I've another question (one out of a million) :sweatdrop: does that include the music cd's? Because my brother says that they usually have a region thing next to it, like Canada or some other americna region, and you can only play it if ur in the Canadian region, for example. (something to do with where the cd players and stuff are made).

Eternity: you're thinking of the DVDs. They have region codes, although I'm pretty sure canada and the US have the same one. CDs can be played pretty much anywhere, I know since I have imported jap ones.
PA: dunno, never been to a convention.

Yes, the CDs can be played anywhere. I'd probably wnna get the dubed and subbed versions. I'm quite partial to dubbed animes. *everyone throws things at Call* I dunno, maybe just cuz I saw the dubbed version of Esca first. *shrug*
