Hey! i just started on this forum and I was wondering if anybody has heard of Initial d by shigeno shuichi. also if anyone knows of a website where translations of the initial d manga can be found I would be very greatful.Thanks!
Initial D rocks. I hated it until recently (not a big car racing fan), but it finally sucked me in around the Mako/Sayuki arc. Now i'm anxious for the 3rd stage movie and ruining my good driving record ^^;
I don't think there are any translations around yet (kinda surprising), but http://www.stas.net/nightkids/index.html is probably the most informative English website about the manga. If translations do pop up, they'll probably be mentioned there.

thanks good to know there are others out there. Havent seen the mako/ sayuki ova yet but want it bad, same with the movie.
Initial D is an amazing racing anime, i liked it form da start, too bad the second season was so short
Initial D rocks my world :D
Seen it all, First Stage, Second Stage, Extra Stage (Initial D OVA - Mako and Saiyuki) and Third Stage (Initial D Movie)
I read some of the manga, but I feel the anime is better for the race scenes.
The manga does develop the characters more but reading about the races in black and white still frames isn't as good as watching the races in CGI as with the anime :)
Third Stage is probably my favourite, can't wait for Fourth Stage which I hear is going back to a TV series format. (A small spoiler the Third Stage ends in a cliff hanger).
Got most of the music CDs too, recently bought the Third Stage CD singles.. love the music in Initial D :)

Hey ! you know what? Initial D is one of many of god's gifts to anime. It is an incredible series, the story is very refreshing and quite realistic, its a nice break from martial arts, guns, magic, and giant robots. I luv cars, i drive a blue hatchback civic, and my frend drives a 240SX, I just got my liscence but hes into the whole drifting scene. I just have to say that initial d is quite inspiring to a driver who at first was scared to drive on the freeway. And dont even start complaining about the computer generated driving scenes, the computer animation gives the cars a smoother,cleaner, more realistic, unique, and more accented look. the computer graphics make brings out each car's unique features in a clean crisp, more defined manner. Also the story line is both interesting and captivating, you get a adrenaline rush just watching it. It makes me pur just like a happy K-car, it can really whoop a donkey's ass. it rox hard like a massachist, it rox harder than a massachist. It really kicks my ass.

Ah, Initial D.
I'd heard of it, but it wasn't until just last night that I was able to witness it first-hand.
I was at Manga House in Orange, CA, and they guy there was watching a tape with English subtitles(!). I heard engines roaring and I looked up at the screen. (I was wearing my "Powered by Honda" t-shirt with red Type-R valve cover on the back, so that should give you some indication of why it caught my attention so quickly.)
I don't know what episode it was, but I'm going to assume it was toward the beginning of the series because everyone was surprised that the hachi-roku was giving the FD RX-7 such a hard time. ^_^
Anyway, I just stood there, mouth hanging open, watching this race unfold... the drifts around the corners, the heel-toe shifting, and Takumi just chillin', like it ain't no thang. ;)
I've got a deal in the works to acquire some VCDs of the first season, translated into English. I'm so excited!!!

Here's my car before my accident. NO, I was not racing when I crashed. I used Photoshop to see how the wheels I wanted would look on her. I had just swapped in a JDM B16A engine and Exedy racing clutch. Had her back for four days before this happened:

So yeah, Initial D is an incredible anime that I hope to see very soon, but remember: THEY'RE JUST CARTOONS! Crashing in real life is n o t - v e r y - f u n - a t - a l l ! ! :( Although no one was hurt, this accident effectively ruined my life. Drive hard, but drive safe!
And that's all I have to say about that. [/soapbox] ^_^;;
