Near the end of the series, the Men in Black (Karl and his shorter buddy) were waiting under a parking garage, talking to each other. The guy from Tachibana Labs pulls up, drops off a suitcase, and leaves. Afterward, the shorter man starts convulsing and Karl can see an image of Lain in his eyes. The guy drops dead and Karl's subsequent scream implies he died as well.

My question...who would it benefit for the MIB to die/leave the physical world? What would it accomplish?

i doubt it would make a difference. almost everyone view them as expendable, so what purpose would they serve? oh yeah, were they brought back to life when lain hit the reset button?

Still, they (or what they did/knew) motivated someone to get rid of them. I'd like ideas as who would.

I'm pretty sure they did it becuase they were paid to. As for who paid them, it seems Tachiban Labs was responsible. They were suprised in that sene becuase they didn't expect the man to be happy aobut the barriers coming down. Who killed them? I say it was lain. Not the Lain we love, but the "dark Lain" that was spreading rumours through the Wired.

When Carl asked if they should leave town, the mystery man from Tachibana told them to go somewhere where there were no power lines or satellite coverage. Is that protection from the knights? Nope, they're all dead.

Hmm. We never found out what was in that briefcase, either. Payment for services rendered? Or something else? It's definitely Lain in that MiB's eye. And when Carl is presumably dying, you see female eyes for a split second in the green HUD which is what he sees, apparently. It also seems to be focusing in on someone moving towards him. What's Carl seeing? Before the Tachibana guy arrived, Carl was talking with MIB2 about how the client(Tachibana guy again) was in contact with Masami Eiri. I'm not sure what this could mean right now, just throwing it out there.

hmmm... on this subject when the little guy dies they show Carl crouched over his dead body and the camera shows his face twisted in pain? My point is when the camera is on his face (the dead one) the shadow on the ground from his face is not his shadow. I dont think a shadow that deformed (looks to me like he has something stabbed into him) would be an animation glitch.
