View Full Version : Influences on Nadesico
Before I pose my question, I just wanted to say that Nadesico is my favorite series, even though I am only half way thru, come on ADV, crank up that damn DVD machine. Anyway I would have to put Nadesico just SLIGHTLY above Eva, only in the fact that most of the time I would rather get a good laugh than deal with complex emotional issues. But before you start to flame away, you cannot compare the 2 series, and when I say I like one better than the other, its like saying I would rather have $1,000,000.01 than having $1,000,000. Either way you are happy. Ok, thats my story and I'm sticking to it. Anyway, I am sick and tired of seeing this forum folder yellow all the time and I was going to wait to finish the series before becoming an active poster but I can't wait so lets go:
In watching the first 12 episodes, I can see a lot of different series that they parody or borrow ideas from. These are a few I noticed:
The Gravity Blast Cannon: Wave Motion Gun (Space Battleship Yamato)
Geigangar(sp) Show: Getter Robo or Getter Robo G
The Old Admiral: Any show with an old captain, they all look the same.
Man, I thought I had more, guess not. What else does anyone have, there must be more.
PS Red folder from now on the Nadesico forum !

I don't know if you have seen any of the Getter Robo series, but Gekiganger is an exact duplicate of it. There are 3 pilots, they even look like the Gekiganger pilots and the episode where the Gekiganger pilot sacrifices himself is also a copy of the final Getter Robo episode where one of the pilots does the same thing.
As for EVA, I don't know, I'm still not seeing anything yet, maybe Ruri = Rei. IMO no connection other than looks.
Ryoko has the same hair colour and name as Ryoko in Tenchi Muyo! Sorry for not thinking of a more admirable simmilarity.
Hey! I was thinking if Australia has ever seen Tenchi Muyo? Send me a message to inform me.
Cheers!:D

I've seen Tenchi Muyo... and the Ryoko in Nadesico is COMPLETLY different.
Iles looks and acts remarkably like Ritsuko from Eva.
Akito acts rather like Shinji on occasion
the mechs look like something out of gundam or macross
there is one mech that bears a startling resemblence to the YF-21
all the pilots are nutters... almost any anime
Gekiganger looks like macross too
Ruri is also a lot like rei, but I wont say anything so as not to make spoilers.
the Monaris (at least in the manga) looks like... the Monolith from 2001: a space oddesy.
and the admiral looks like captain gloval from macross.

Come on, there's gotta be more action in this thread.
I just started watching it, so I can't really comment on it yet.
Obviously Gekiganger is from Geter Robo. I'm sure I'll pick up more as I start to watch the series.
BTW, Macross in it's very early stages was ment to be a parody of Gundam and Yamato, but that changed and it became what it is now.
The thing is, Nadesico emulated practically every Classic Mecha series in Anime...and then some stuff from other series (dont recall any examples at the moment)
The thing that makes Nadesico so great is its combination of classic references, and new ideas as well. Its a perfect combination of new and old, rolled up into one tasty burrito...mmm burrito
Anywho, there's the thread aciton you requested.
