Oh My Goddess

I have been thinking lately about buying some 'Oh My Goddess' videos. Is it worth it, good, bad, what?

i think it is good. Ah My Goddess is an awesome anime i think. but hey dont listen to me but if u want it. oh yah welcome to AB. go to introductions to introduce urself to everyone if u havent allready

I would agree its definitely worth picking up... although I'm a little pissed about how they make you buy all those 60 min tapes instead of cramming it on to one DVD.

That said I've heard that the DVD might come out soon.

Anyhoo, its a good laugh to say the least..

It's a wondrous anime; my personal favourite! It's light and charming and worth seeing at least once.

It's in my top 3 fav, and definately in my "essential collection." But for me, i'm a sucker for A!MS type animes, so don't necessarily listen to me. :D

here's a question for you folks that a pal asked me today:

The japanese name for this series is "Ah! Megami-Sama" right? Now, the english name is "Oh My Goddess!" If I translate "Ah! Megami-Sama" correctly, doesn't it just mean "ah! goddess" or something like that? How did that turn into "oh MY goddess"? I don't see any possessive particle or anything with the AMS title. :D

I already gave him my answer, but let's see what you people can come up with. :)

I believe that they may have named the series in English, as a play on words with 'Oh my goodness!' Then, rather unsuccessfully translated it into Japanese, losing all of the intended meaning all together.

Ah! = well, Ah! can't really translate that, really
Megami = Goddess
Sama = Dear

So my (rough) translation would be literally Ah! Dear Goddess.

But I think the INTENDED meaning was Oh my Goddess!, as a play on the American expression Oh my God! -- as Coign ALMOST got ;)

Interesting. But Isn't "sama" more of a really really high honorific term? I dunno if Japanese really translate "sama" to "dear" ... but i could be wrong. :)

My theory is that they were playing on the blasphemous "oh my god!" saying. :D they of course tacked on the "dess" to the end of that to make things fun. :)

More than likely, it was an amalgam of the two. Oh My Goodness! is a toned down version of Oh my God!anyway :P

again, as i've said before, "Oh My Goddess" is a great anime series, but the manga is much better. there's more of it, more characters to get into, a lot to explore.

... It're an awesome anime and it sure if worth to get ^_^...

You might want to buy the series on DVD instead of VHS, concidering it's 5 VHSs and only 2 DVDs... DVDs're being released around now.
