Being a New Zealander I have only recently finished watching all of the tv series. I have a question/comment.
The spider angel (Drools acid,sashquiel?) is believed to have the weakest AT field (taken out by the guns). But could the power failure at nerv have been due to an application of it's AT field.
Tabris (kaorou) managed to cause a power blank out using his AT field.

It is not too likely in my opinion, The Angel showed up a while after the blackout occurred. Also the 17th Angels AT field was detected prior to when it began to blockout everything, so it would be easiest to think that Nerv would have detected something.
This brings up a question i should ask Captain Jake-
The Children are in Tokyo-3 when the angel attacks and go though what appears to be a rather small building (in relation to the geofront) and end up in the heart of HQ in the geofront. (i dont know about you, but from the views of the geofront this would be a might long walk- and difficult too as i have never seen any passageways leading from HQ to the world outside - how do the Evas get out?).
Well there is of course that tube which the angel drops acid down, but if you look at the Building in the geofront i have never seen it.

I'd have to agree with Ath there. They detected it BEFORE the blackout
but that's not to say it isn't possible. Over the course of the series, the angels have been able to do some really freaky stuff with their A.T. Fields.
The Tenth Angel (Tzachquiel), which is the blob-like one that has to be "caught" by the Evas.
His ability to use pieces of himself as bombs were attributed to his A.T. field
The Twelfth Angel (Leriel) was able to use an "inverted A.T. field" to create the Sea of Dirac that captures EVA-01

The power outage was not caused by the A.T field. It just attacked while SEELE was teaching NERV a painful lesson not to cross them. They wanted to get a layout of the Nerv base by their reconstruction procedure. Ritsuko foiled their plan by running a dummy system through the Magi. Also this angel did not have a weak at field. It was taken down easily because it had to open it's AT field to drop the Acid on the children. That is why it went through. Next time you have a question like this why not try taking it up in my "Ask Captain Jake anything about Evangelion Page on the MB

the AT-Field thing brings up a question of mine, how can projectile weapons used by the evas kill an angel but not conventional military weapons? why couldn't those eva wepaons be used by the military to defeat the angels, or does it have something to do with an evas AT field

the thing with this weapon thing is that the only reason why the energy rife worked on that angel is because it opened it's at field to drop the acid. if it had it's at field up the gun would of had no effect. all of the othertimes when they have tried to use eva weapons they haven't work with the exception fot he postitron rife. the point is that an at field can't be penetrated by conventional weaponry.

I thought that Asuka, while being in defence, was also actively tearing throught he angels A.T. feild. Im sure i remember her saying that her position must also nuetralise the A.T. field. I do not see the angel needing to drop its own A.T.field to drop acid. The big blue diamond thing certainly did not drop its A.T. field to blast the crap out of anything it percieved as a threat, nor to drill into the Geofront.
It is just that disabling this angels A.T. field was not as spectacular as some of the rest.
But once disabled it was very esy to take down with a big rifle.
