Akira is one of the most amazing anime movies ever to come out of Japan. The animation alone is worth watching. I love it, & it's the only anime I've ever seen in a movie theatre. :B:

How can you think a classic like that is dumb? Was it too long for you or did you not like the story? It's one of my favorites and it got me into anime. Oh well, I got my opinions about it and you got yours.

It's soooooo cool! I like freaking things like that :D
it's complicated, but then again I love complicated story. maybe you didn't liked it 'cause you didn't paid enought attention to it and didn't understood it. you have to pay a lot of attention, 'cause it's confusing. but it's a really great movie. 100 thumbs up!

Everything I could say about Akira has already been said. :D It's awesome - give it 3 more chances (you should be able to catch the whole storyline by then). ;)
It was my first anime, too, and I can honestly say I wouldn't be here on this board without it.

Should have stuck around for the second half, my man, you missed out on some awesome action footage (Kanada toting that Laser rifle up the hill, and the Sol space laser cannon thing alone made it worth watching). Akira is not for everyone, and you do have to be in the mood to watch it (I've only seen the whole movie once -- and that was back in 89 -- but only because I haven't had the extra cash to pick it up <tear>), but it definitely IS a good show.... at least I think it is.
Try watching it again, maybe you'll like it if you see the ending (and if you don't, don't blame me... :P)

i dont know i didnt really like the character designs (especially when i didnt realize one character was a girl till she talked in a girly voice) i dont know i cant really think of much wrong with it i just go for certain styles of animation. i wouldnt have rented it if my friend hadnt have said it was good.

<shrug> Well, I guess if you don't like it, you don't like it. Not much we can do to change your mind if you don't like the animation style or character designs. I will say that you are missing out on a great story, though..... :(

It's okay Bomberman I didn't like it either. I've watched it three times and I still don't enjoy it. I know it's a classic but I think it's just a matter of taste.

They're working on it. :)
Akira soared over my head then first few times I saw it. I understood that it was something about Man's evolution, human experiments, and a biker gang. After watching it closer and realizing there's a manga, I "get" it now. It's easily a classic, in that it reached a pinnacle of cell animation (Tetsuo stopping the tank shell for example), a new mark in plot-based anime, and told the world that cartoons can be a serious platform for telling a serious movie-length story. Maybe you don't like the character designs since this movie is over 10 years old?

Its a matter of oppinion, but I am definitely gonna get the DVD!
What kinda styles do you like? Sailor moon or something, cause I used Akira as standard which I compared every anime with and nothing even came closed to it except for a few, but none has surpassed it in character, storyline or animation?

I don't know if you have noticed but Evangelion is a lot like Akira except for the big mecha stuff. I really think you should give Akira a chance before you discard it as bad.

You really can't enjoy Akira, I feel, unless you know what you're getting into. I fell asleep 3/4 the way through it the first time, but I was like twelve. I feel it did drag a little in places, but maybe I was just too young to understand. I shall reserve final judgement until I can finally see me this re-release. You know, I 've never seen it subtitled before, either.

I liked Akira alot. Best parts of the movie I would say were contained in the second half of it, but that is my opinion.

I totally agree, but do you also remember the first part when they fight the clowns on their bikes, that was totally awsome.
