Well..... I have the entire collection at home and was watching it once again and was following
along and noticed that ALL the children change as the story goes along, for example
shinji becomes less self centred and more confident (enough so that he faces down his father
a few times!), as well as auska and Rei, espeacially Rei! She finally comes to understand that
humans are not completely selfish and a scab on the wonder of life!
But why do we see this? I tried to figure it out but was unable to come up with any
convincing argument to myself please help, i'm starting to go nuts! Soon i'll be wearing my
underware on the out side of my clothes and drooling if no one can come up with an answer!

Hey,
This is not really a question i have had to ask myself.
One of the things i really liked about this is that you do see these changes happening, not only in the children, but also in Misato, Ritsuko and the others.
The series deals openly with attainment, or the becoming one with God. We watch with empathy as we see our heros grow. It would have been rather flat if this was not the case. ( the only example i can think of (as it is late) is the Smurfs, they never change and the novelty wore off after i turned 9)
((why the smurfs? i do not know)

yeah i have noticed that thay change and i THINK that it sort of follows the tree of life that apears on the roof of that room were gendo sits and in the starting:? (seeing if there is a cofused one)
i think ed has it at his site i remember going there and seeing a lot of info

Yes, Ed from Ed's Wallpaper Gallery and former site Ed's Evangelion Realm does have it on his site, the Tree of Life that is...
I also had a load of info on it, but it's on my own computer which I got back but am still having some problems.. still using my sister's computer for now...

because thats probably the most apealing part of the whole thing, though I have another
question!
Is shinjis Eva the giant of life or was Rei's?
P.S the smurfs were strange little buggers weren't they!

It depends what you define as "the giant of life"
Eva-01 was used in the complementation in the place of Lilith...
But Rei/Lilith herself was the "ark of souls" in the third impact

I must have missed something, i know of the reference to "the giant of Light" which is Adam in the Antarctic, In that case niether unit is that Giant, though they were made of that giant.

Sorry I was refering to the giant of light not life spelling mistake my fault!
But which came first? Shinjis eva wasn't it? but if so why does Rei's try to absorb her and go
beserk when Shinji enters Rei's, wasn't it because Rei was "mentally unstable" as ritsuko says?

Well actually they created Eva-00 first. As to why it went beserk Captain Jake and i have a nice little debate over whether Naoka Akagi(Ritsuko's Mum) or Lilith herself resides within it.

Though that debate ended as most debates do, no further from the begining.
Personally i have few objections to Naoka Akagi being the soul inside 00, but after seeing EoE im more inclined to say that Rei herself is the soul of Lilith. Maybe more on this later?.

Note in Instrumentality that Rei has a sign of fear that had developed from her interactin with people, how Asuka lost all her self worth and her process worked over her fear and hatred, and how Shinji had changed to have more confidence, and his instrumentality worked on that. Not only is it nescesarry to the story and plot, but it is also interesting to see them change. I heard that all things change, it is the way of life, either that or the ball is red.
