Allen, definately. He has charm, self-control, strength, intelligence and hair (I can't stress the last one enough). With Van you run a 50% chance of being beheaded before you can introduce yourself.

No way! Allen's suave, slick, strong, uh...steady...speedy...um dammit, out of adjectives. Between Allen and Van, I like Allen more. But...neither of them come close to Folkien...:evil:

lol^^ Indeed Dritz. I really like Folkien. . .he simply kicks ass! With that awesome skeleton hand equiped with all your gadgets from tranquilizers to poison darts, etc. His cape^^ sword, strength, and he's a draconian as well ^_^
It's not like I have something against Allen. I really like him but I still prefer Van. Allen's great .... I could easily imagine him for being my older brother. But, nevertheless, I like Van way more. ;)

Well, let's see here. This does seem to be just a bit one-sided, so I'll put in my two cents worth. When I watched the series for the first time, Allen was my favorite character (among the guys). I've seen all of Tenku no Escaflowne in its entirety at least four times, and as time has gone on, I have to say that my favorite character, hands down, is Folken Fanel.
The reasons for my liking of Folken are varied. One, I find that the darker, suffering characters tend to be my favorites. Two, Folken is amazingly well-developed as far as motives and personality go. Three, he's just cool.
I also seem to have this thing for the bit characters, such as Gaddes, Allen's second in command. His character is actually quite well-developed, in my opinion. And then there's Jajuka...but let's not go into that.....
So...yes, Van is cool (notice my icon) but so is Allen, my first favorite, and Folken, my current favorite.

Van is a crazy 'lil headstrong runt...your standard anime boy-hero. For that, I somewhat despise him...
Now Allen on the other hand is suave, cool, and can whup stuff up pretty good (though his Guymelef's name always reminds me of Kool-aid -_-)
But there's simply no doubt about it...Folken is a total badass, and towers far above those whimpy do-gooders! Just wish he'd ditch the makeup...

Although it's been a while since I've seen VoE and my opinion may change after I watch it again(which will be soon i hope:D).
For now however, I can say that I prefer Van to Allen.. He's got the wings, the girl, the better looks(imo) and Escaflowne. Allen has style for sure, but he seemed to me.. i dunno.. a bit arogant i guess.. So that's why I prefer Van..
However, I do think that Folken beats his bro.. Simply cause he's cooler and darker.. Dark, but with a hint of good.. it's a great mix in my opinion. :)
