Could someone tell me the differences between the two? I have been watching the tv series for a while and I heard that the ova was different. That the Tv series gives Kenshin and the bad guys lots of power. But, in the ova he is just a regular guy with great skill.

I've barely broken into the first fifth of the TV series, but I've seen the OVA, and the differences in tone, animation, and style are very apparent. The OVA is darker, more realistic, and has very little humor (if at all).

Now I definately am glad I am watching the TV series. It may not be as realistic, but it is so very funny and cute. I tend to think that it is easier to watch alot of humour than a lot of death and such....but then, I willingly subjected myself to Eva, so....:)

I just finished the OVA seem to like the OVA better. The plot was pretty good and is a very legit background story for Kenshin despite the differences from the tv and the ova series.

Yeah, that did aget annoying after the while. I thougt the movie was okay. It seem to be right smacked in the middle of the TV show and the OVAs. There were no personality changes and all that weird stuff like...oh say, the Escaflowne movie...

Ahh, indeed. Some prefer the OAVs while others, the TV series.
From what I now [and stated above is quite correct] is that the OAV is done by a different character artist. You can identify the distinct differences between characters of the OAV and TV series.
The OAV contains a darker theme and mood. Yes, this is more of a serious theme than that of RK TV series^^ It is very much more realistic than the TV series and gives you a slightly different feel.
The music, there are several new compositions I think, they are all pretty good. Ya can find them on the OAV OSTs. As of now, I have no link to where ya can buy then^^; There are also some popular vocals in the OAV such as one of the better known ones "Heart of Sword - Yoaka Mae (Before Dawn)" sung by TM Revolution. It's not a bad song actually^^ has a technoish feel with an upbeat mood.
When did Heart of Sword appear in the OVA? I know it appears as the third ending (after Namida wa Shitte iru) and as the fifth ending (after Fourth Avenue Cafe) of RuroKen TV but I never heard of this...
I appreciate realistic anime but come on... I wanted to see Kenshin do the Sou Ryu Sen and the Ryu Tsui Sen Zan! ;P

Yeah, I don't remember heart of sword ever being in the oav either, but it's a great song.
I really like both the tv series and the oav. I think the oav is really great for giving some background into the tv series. And the oav also rules because it has Enishi!

The OAV is has a somber, melachony theme, while the TV series has a more brighter and more positive outllook. But I guess the most obviuos difference is that in the OAV Kenshin kills while in theTV series he doesnt.
just finished watching the OVA's...again :D
the music is just soooo sad, i almost cried :(
the difference of the two is pretty obvious, psycnarf already mentioned it :D
