The very end of Slayers Try

Umm...I'm trying to be spolier free here...

For everyone who has completed Slayers Try, what did you think of the ending? I wasn't surprised by the way it ended, but I know a lot of people hated it. What do you all think

I'll try to keep it spoiler free too, but really people, were some of you actually expecting Darkstar to blow the world up? This is Slayers, not Hideaki Anno's Slayers, thank god. (No flames, please. I'm an Eva fan too, but I sure as hell wouldn't want them to switch tones on me.) I liked the ending, even though it didn't quite pack the emotional punch of Slayers NEXT. Maybe I only liked it because I don't have the same levels of Filia hate and Valgaav love as the rest of the fan community. I rate Slayers TRY as the overall best tv series of the three, even though I loved Martina and the NEXT ending is still my favorite.

My favorite part of TRY is the way it drives home the point that Xellos, for all his cheeriness, is an evil bastard. This was clearer in the novels I hear, but now all of Slayers fandom can know the truth. Maybe people don't like the truth about Xellos? Why didn't they realize it before, anyway? Based on personal experience, I blame slavish fangirl devotion. 'Course Martina is my favorite after Lina, so I can't really talk.

What did everyone else think of the ending?

I liked the Try ending, though, don't ask me why, I still like the Next ending way more. Maybe 'cause I'm a Lina & Gourry 2getha 4eva advocate? :lol:
Nevertheless, I really liked the Try ending cause .... eep, I nearly forgot, we wanted to keep this spoiler-free so I'm going to stop here! ;)

I'll simply say I liked it because I saw it fitting, but I hated it because I was sad that there was no more Slayers to watch. I've seen it all, but I wish I could keep going with a season 4 and 5 and so on.

The ending went rather quickly, I think. . Kind'a odd, since the series was stretched out a lot. . at least, rather then the usual two main plots in a Slayers series.

Anyways. . I liked the ending, mainly. . . the way they showed Xelloss evil-side, and also the animation for the Darkstar weapons. ^^

Of course. . I _loved_ the Next ending, *sniff* Brought tears 'ta my eyes. . ^_^;

The ending of Slayers Try, like the rest of the series, is a depressing, dismal study in the futility of being alive, VERY Hidekai Anno. It inappropriately forced characters designed for comic situations into a Draconic version of "Schindler's List" and practically forced a gun to our heads to cry for the Magneto of this series, Valgarv.

Such a low note did Slayers Try end on, that the heads of the Slayers disbanded and VOWED never to make another series, movie OR OVA!!

F&ck you very much, Mr Anno. Thanks to you, making angst and hoeplessness fashionable, you have any hope of continuation for one of the finest fantasy franchises ever.

And yes, by the way, the end of Slayers Next was incredibly sweet, optimistic and hopeful, the way most good anime are.

Although Martina was my ultimate favorite character, Slayers Try was my favorite series. The ending made me want to cry because I knew that that was the end...except for the Lina & Naga ones. But it was just kind of sad, I was glad that (oops, can't spoil it). Valgaav was really cool though, because he wasn't necisarily good nor bad. I really wish they did more series, but the comics are still coming out.

i didnt like it, theres just so much i want to know like if zelgadis turns back into a human again. i havent seen much of the ova's, but what happens to naaga?

Agreed it left me with much to be desired and to many holes that need filling. They need one more season to fill those holes and make more of a closed ending. Besides now that it's over I'm gonna miss Xellos :bawling:

Its kinda sad that Slayers Try is the series swan song. It is not that the series was spectacular, but I have gotten used to the traveling bunch and their crazy adventures, that I wouldn't have minded in the least to see them for another season or two.

As for the ending of Try itself. I thought it was above average, nothing spectacular. I guessed it wouldn't be special the way they were meandering on towards the end, and they couldn't repeat the same ending as Next. I guess I wasn't dissappointed with it mainly because I wasn't expecting too much, I just watched teh series to be entertained. The irony of it is the one thing the ending of try did amazingly well was set up a great story for another season. Only problem is, there was no other season.
