This came up in discussion awhile ago after me realizing that many of the life lessons i have learned were picked up from manga and anime. How to deal with the opposite sex, how to, and not to, deal with problems with friends and family, etc.

So now i am wondering, have you ever learned any life lessons in watching anime? and what is it?

I learned from Cowboy Bebop not to leave things in the fridge for too long.

I learned not to run away from my problems from Evangelion.

I've also learned from Serial Experiments Lain that being yourself is important.

see you space cowboys.

oh, btw, this is the best thing i learned through anime.

Keep men who seem to be enamored of you. Keep them in the palm of your hand and when they develop into good men, you let them become your lovers.

The most important thing I learned is to be yourself. :)

This is gonna sound really silly, but I was going through a really bad time with my "identity" at school around the first time I ever watched Shoujo Kakumei Utena, and identity is one of the show's main themes. I had an epiphany watching episode 12: I had lost myself upon moving to Oregon. I became a loser. I hated who I was. So I said "screw this" and reverted back to my old obnoxious self, and I'm happier for it :D

Oh, and probably the best lesson I've learned from manga/anime yet:

"The good men are all gay or taken!"---Karen, "X/1999"

i learn to like homos and bi, and it's not wrong to be gay, it's a part of life, i respect ppl more, i learn that this world is full of stereotypes of how a girl should talk and act, and many other things, i basicly learn how to live a better life, and my life IS better in so many ways thanks to anime

I learned most of my things from Eva.

1. You mustn't run away
2. My life is worth living here and now, and
3. I must live true to myself

I learned of the power of the 1961 Gibson EB-0 Guitar and to praise the guitar for its worth and the hidden power it has in the hands of robots that come out of people's heads.

LOL...I have a feeling you'd be disappointed!

But don't you ever wonder what kinda stereotypes other countries are getting about your home country (in my case, the U.S.) from TV? Good Lord, I hope Jerry Springer isn't airing in any other countries...

I had this little talk with a pal of mine yesterday, and he observed from anime that if you somehow fall in the see and drown, you won't actually die. You'll just fall unconcious and the tide will bring you to a tropical island. Actually, this goes for just about all "lost at sea" stories. oh well. :)

I think RK has had a profound influence on me. However, I'm not sure whether I should adopt Shishio's "the strong will feed on the weak and the weak must die" or Kenshin's "everything has a right to live." This goes for Trigun as well I guess. I think Nadesico's idea with Jovian revenge/ trying to protect earth idea has had some interesting affects on me as well ... :D

I won't get into the details; it's boring and pointless. Yet I will say this: at a very bad time in my life I watched some very involving, philosophical anime. It wasn't anime that cured me, not by any stretch of the imagination, but in my despair I did take a few pieces of advice to heart. I carried them with me when I finally rose above it all, and I remember them still. Like any other art form, anime has the ability to inspire and provoke thought.

Plus, after watching Excel Saga and FLCL, I discovered what it was like on an acid trip, thus saving me the effort of experimenting. :D

I've learned not to rape women because you'll be poisened and stabbed in the eye by ninja guys and die later.

shyeah. Only like everything I know I learned from anime. I learned how to fight, believe it or not, I learned how to stand up to people who act like jerks, I learned some evil combacks for people who are creeps (thanks Duo, Vegeta) I learned that death is not the way out of things (thanks to DBZ, and Gundam Wing) I also learned a little about patience too, etc. I'm basically really in tune with life because of anime :B:

I've learned:
--that food can be used as a weapon
--martial arts can be applied to damn near any activity
--the guy you hate the most is the guy you'll love the most
--those cute little pets come in handy sometimes
--even heroes can die

I learned that kids are smarter than adults give them credit for.

Well, actually, I learned that *here*, not directly from watching anime. But I found that I can discuss anime intelligently (and sometimes sillily! ;) ) with people who are mostly half my age.

Except for people like EVA Fiend and Wolfpac, who are obviously ancient fossils like me :D
