well, they're showing Escaflowne here in the Philippines, but i dont get the chance of watching it since anime is aired from 4:00-5:00PM and 6:00-8:00 pm (different channels) the bad thing is my class starts either at 4:30 or 6:00 and i only get back home at 10 :(

i cant also borrow from my local video shop since thier anime collection isnt that extensive :(

I've only seen the 1st ep and although it was entertaining an animated well, it was a very cliche opener.

Young girl, best sprinter in the school, magically goes to another magical fairy place....

I've heard good things about it though, I wouldn't mind seeing more.

Didn't you know that being sucked into an alternate world is an occupational hazard for japanese schoolgirls? :D

Hey everyone! Did you know that Escaflowne is being shown at 11:00, Saturdays on Fox Tv in the America? Finally, some more anime! Woo-hoo!

Well, I'm glad I'm over that phase... :sweatdrop

An occupasional hazard for female Anime characters in general, who are more often than not uniformed school girls, is to be walked in on by an unsuspecting cool male lead while they are changing. The cool guy tries to divert his eyes while the girl screams as high-pitched as possible.
Slight variations of this theme may be applied.

As a general rule, this has to happen at least 5 times in every anime.

Hmmm... should start a thread: 'Anime cliches'

The fox version sucks! I lost interest of the show in just about 5 mins.

well i bought some wallscrolls from there and they just charge a little more money. like my wall scroll was 15 bucks but at some other store it was 13. so its only a few dollars differ. it doesnt include the ship&handling.

I saw Escaflowne the movie and thought that it was one the worst anime ever. My friend says that the series is 100 times better, but I don't think I'll like the series, because it is the characters in the movie which I don't like. The movie is a rip-off of everything from Ninja Scroll to Evangelion. You want a good series? Evangelion, 3x3 eyes, Astro Boy, TekkaMan. Nothing original in Escaflowne the movie! However, I'm sure a nice boxed set would be cool, whatever the anime!

i thought the FOX version sucked too.i mean if you can't show it in the way it is supposed to be shown then why show it at all.
anyway, i really like Escaflowne. i am thinking about getting the 8 volume box set also.i'll put it right next to my Saber Marionette J box set.

Hey the escaflowne movie isn't that bad! Some people like it at first then chage their minds..what's that all about? It retells the story of the series fairly well, but when you're retelling a story, you don't really have time to flesh out the characters..so touche on the point about characters in the movie being undeveloped. BUT the series is just great..nothing really orignial to be honest, but highly entertaining nonetheless... origniality can be overrated at times anyway. If you can do somehting that's been done before, and do it really well then you deserve praise in my mind. Oh and the ending to Esca does not suck!! Especially when you hold it up against the ending of something like Eva (both the eps and the movies) it holds up pretty well. Of course, if you like your anime to be confusing and self-indulgent, then by all means watch evangelion. Whoa i'm harsh today, and it's only my second post!

Escaflowne the movie....hmmm. I must say that I didn't really like it. It flowed pretty well, and the animation was certainly smooth but I didn't like the style of character drawing and the characters themselves. It seems that most recent anime series think that they have to have some psychological ending, like Evangelion and even Tekkaman(how blade is crazy and loses his memory). I prefer just a big finale, like the last episode of Astro Boy. Although they try to make them meaningful, few anime directors make it both meaningful and entertaining. Although a big Eva fan, I was ready to turn over the channel when the last episode aired. It was pure crap. Meaningless and pointless. Miyazaki manages to make his movies meaningful and entertaining at the same time.

Heh^^ yep, I think Miyazaki has that special trait when it comes to making anime... he has that weird ability to draw audiences of all ages into his movies... such as Totoro [really cute], Nausicaa, and Mononoke Hime. BTW... cool Porrco Rosso quote^^ I presume you like porrco rosso? :)

Psychological ending? Krang, what the hell are you talking about?

I havent seen the movie but I have seen the whole series. I think its exceptional because it incorporates Magic, Medieval style battles and Mech type robots (Im a big robot fan) the ending is pretty disapionting though.

Well I've seen the movie but it was in Japanese without subtitles. So, since my japanese isn't very good I was only able to make out some of the dialogue. It was still awesome though.

BigShot Jordan

is it me?or does it seem like most mech stories endings are dissapointing?

anyway,i really want to see the movie.i have seen clips of it on the net and it looks preety cool.i hope that they show it at SakuraCON2001 this year in my home town.

I've seen a few episodes subbed and I liked them. The animation is well done, the plot is pretty standard, but it's all very well executed. And the japanese soundtrack is awesome too.

tekblade
07-10-00, 03:13 PM
yeah its pretty good but some ppl i know thing the animation kinda sucks cause of the big noses they have but i tell them, its just their style and its a good story. oh well :D

What i know. All i know is what i havew heard about the comparison between the jap and the dub, this is what i have concluded: 26 ep in jap, and 22 ep in english. :< talk about a mega bummer!!!! I so want to see the jap version because the dub was so butchered according to my friends. And so i need to find a store here where i live that can gimmie escaflowne! (I am thinking of maybe travelling into T.O. and going to the S.S.) I think that would be the best choice so far.
