Seeing this at the cinemas was the highlight of the year and I am glad I was lucky to see it at a cinema in Australia. Is it going to be released in Australia or am I going to have to fork out $70 for the NTSC DVD copy?

Who has seen it and who has not seen it?

I saw that movie! Man I loved it! I thought how they did the arrow animation where it looks like the arrow flies right past his head and into the screen was pretty cool. Along with all the other great animation in the movie. The dvd is great too!

I loved the movie too, but the ending left me feeling like it had ended prematurely for some reason... it was like some guy had suddenly walked up to the animators and told them that the budget was almost used and they had to hurry with the movie. I dunno why but I just got that sort of feeling inside me.. but nevertheless Princess Mononoke kicks ass!

I saw it at the theaters with a bunch of my friends.
That movie was totally awesome.
The DVD came out awhile ago, but I haven't got around to
buying it yet.

Read this thread: http://www.animeboards.com/showthread.php?threadid=12385

SBS bought the rights to air it, but it will be released before they air it.

So if you are patient, you wont have to spend around $35 US for it.

FYI, the tittle is Mononoke Hime, and if you've watched it dubbed, watch it subbed or raw, it is sooo worth it.. dont get me wrong, I love Gillian Anderson, but that role is sooo not her. watch the subs dudes, always subs.

Anime Pirate, Princess Mononoke is also perfectly acceptable as the title, Mononoke Hime is the Japanese title, and Princess mononoke is the english title. Both are correct. Using the english title makes more sense if you arent fluent in japanese, like most of us.

Princess Mononoke is the american title, but it doesnt make any sense, unless you know what mononoke means, and if you do know what it means then why not go for the other 4 letters and call it by it's original name Mononoke Hime? its not that hard to understand, I am far from fluent in the language, but I will never learn it if I keep calling things by their English name. I hope I didnt sound sharp before, it wasnt my intention.

My cousins and I saw it on DVD together. The 12 and 10 year olds loved it, but the younger ones were a bit disillusioned.

I loved the carnage. Frikkin awesome. Definitely worth watching and rewatching.

Actually I didn't think it was all that good. It was OK but not worth all the hype.

A stunningly MASTERPIECE which has a majestically beautiful reverence and portrayl of nature.

Only witnessing this spectacle on the big screen (Wedenesday the 11th, Astor Cinema) with Dobly 5.1 Stereo sound does it justice.

Really makes you wish that they show Miyazaki film marathons more, does it not.

One thing I should mention is that prior to Titanic's release in Japan Mononoke himesama was the highest grossing film. So that says a lot.

That said, I don't always agree with the masses, I mean I would never buy titanic on DVD and it took a female to get me to see it.

Hey, mtyoo...

The new versions of "Castle Of Cagliostro" and "Kiki's Delivery Service" are coming out at the end of the month in Japan - subbed!

(BTW, I think that "Special Edition Mononoke" thin was an April Fools' Joke... :P )

----, yeah, that's what I thought too, but I figured that would be too cruel of a joke (READ: People are assholes)

My lame dvd player can't play dvds straight out of japan :( But I'm picking up the 'new and improved' dvd release of cagliostro this week :)

I want nausicaa and totoro on dvd damnit all to hell! :redhot:

Yeah I went to see princess mononoke at the same time. I don't know if you saw me. I was the guy in a black jacket hanging around with some japanese people I went with.

Anyway I though the movie was fantastic but paying $75 for the DVD is alot. I hope they release it locally(Australia)

For all you fellow Role Players Out there:

Don't you think that the themes, mythology and moral conflicts in "Werewolf The Apocalypse" are practically carbon copies of those in "Princess Monokone?"

Dryden-san
23-04-01, 01:32 AM
Well, the mythology is the same kind that's been around in Japan since forever. But the themes? Hmmm... Lesse, we have the wilderness vs. civilization, big spiritual creatures changing shape in the moonlight, protagonist with double-edged powers, mankind is only slowed in the end never stopped. Oh yeah, and theres a bunch of giant wolves running around. Yeah, they are somewhat similar. I don't think Miyazaki was inspired by Werewolf, however.

I thought it was WAAAAAAAY to over-rated. The story was way too cookie cutter, it seemed too much like a Disney storyline (of course, with added gore).

Yea the reson that they are simlar is beacuse of shintoism, a riligion Japan. It's all about nature and spirits.

I just got to see that movie. I don't own a DVD player so I had to wait for it to come out on vhs. I rented it a couple of weeks ago. I loved it. I'm thinking about buying it. When I get the money.

Look who's talking. You're an Eva fan, correct?

I have to admit that I didn't see Princess Mononoke by now. :heh: Anyways, the movie is running now at a cinema in my hometown and I'm going to watch it next week.

It'll be the best $7.50 you'll ever spend, sir/miss. Anime in Dolby 5.1 Stereo sound is not an anime, it is an EXPERIENCE.

By the way, you are a Tokimeki Memorial fan too, right?

Mikomi
25-04-01, 07:45 AM
Miss, please, I'm a girl as my avatar shows.
I won't call myself a great Tokimemo fan. I'm addicted to the music, that is. And I have some things with Shiori in common, that's why I chose her to be my avatar.
Anyways, I'm sure Princess Mononoke is an experience. All my friends adore this movie so I need to watch it. ;)

Ronin Aquila

I do apologise, your gender was difficult to descern by the Avatar alone as there are an ocean of male Shiori fans out there (I myself am one of them).

Mikomi
25-04-01, 08:34 AM
Well, now you know that not all Shiori fans are guys. ;)

Ronin Aquila
25-04-01, 10:12 AM
Wow, you are the first girl I know who does not complain about how Dear ol' Shiori is a misoginistic creation whose purpose is to satisfy peadophilic fantasies of middle aged men who want a sweet, meed and practically PERFECT (in politically incorrect criterias) teenage girlfriend.

I tells ya, feminist extremists have got to stop complaining about everyting and GET LIVES!! What the hell is wrong with insecure guys living out sweet and idealistically romantic fantasies?! It is after all fulfilling their demands of us getting in touch with our "feminine" sides is it not?

Its not like finding sweet girls attractive is hurting anyone, is it!!

Thank you, Ms Mikomi. You have restored my faith in the existence of reasonable young women in this crazy world.

After all the hype from my friends over what a great, beautiful move Princess Mononoke is, I was kind of disappointed when I saw it at theaters last year.

It just wasn't as fluid as some animation I've seen. In fact, I remarked afterwards to my husband and our friend (we all went together) that I thought "Lord of the Rings" was a better work.

I'm not dissing the storyline. But the animation didn't live up to my expectations.

Mononoke ruled. There's little i can say that won't make me sound like a total obsessive nutbag about this movie; most likely because I am one. It ruled, from story to art to action to pace. I own the DVD, I've watched it ten times sub & dub, and I'm planning on buying a bunch of those little forest spirit guys to put all over my house.

Did I mention this movie ruled?

damn, i thought mononoke was great!!! i saw it with my friend who is NOT an anime fan at all, and i think she loved it more than i did!! i defnintely think you need to see it on a big screen to get the full effect of the movie though~

Just for all you fellow "Werewolf The Apocalypse" players out there.

Don't you think San is THE justification to the Storyteller of how you can plausibly create and play a HOMID Red Talon character?

I haven't seen PM yet. Want to see it badly. But Buena Vista don't lets me. :redhot:
