I have the occasion to buy the entire series of Lain at a relatively cheap price, but before I do I would like to know what's the series about.Do you think I should buy the whole series or are some episodes not worth it?(like in Kenshin, after the Kyoto Arc the series is practically worthless)

Well I guess it kinda depends on your taste...
Lain isn't something to be taken lightly. You'd have to pay close attention to crucial scenes that ultimately explain themselves later on, etc. etc. But many of the people I know who actually finished the series appreciated it for what it was, although on occasion there were some who didn't.
But really, If you're willing to settle down and open up your mind to something new and completely different, then I'd say go for it. A cheap price? Why not?
I did, and in the end I wasn't, at all, disappointed...
But thats just me...
Hope this helps you in your decision...

Oh yeah,
If you do decide to purchase this series, IMO, you shouldn't worry too much about episodes that are
"not worth it"
cause again, many crucial scenes explain themselves later on and It's a short series(13 eps I think) so yeah...

***Plot Spoilers***
Well its about a girl named Lain who basically is an outcast and bad things like killings suicide, and such have been happening around her. Suddenly she is introduced to a world called "the wired" (which is our equivalent to the internet). Soon Lain discovers that these killings & suicide, the wired, and also she herself are all somehow connected...
As she learns and discovers more, her whole world starts to fall apart...
So basically like I said, if you approach this open-minded and pay attention to every episode, you shouldn't be disappointed. Cause basically, doesn't disappointed mean that your expectations weren't met? Well if so, then don't worry cause this is something totally different & new and can only be experienced not explained...

Believe me when I say this...Serial Experiements Lain is an anime that really needs multiple viewings to fully understand. That makes the 13 eps alone stand out from most anime these days...it isn't just entertainment. Not a watch-once-and-forget plot. You will get repeated use out of those DVD, I assure you!
*PLOT BASICS*
Everyone is connected. A girl commits suicide, yet her classmates get e-mail from her afterwards, e-mail personally addressed to them. A shy quiet girl, Lain, finds out and then gets an e-mail herself. Her interest (and aptitude) in computer communication sudden increases and she gets a new computer from her father to replace her older model. Suddenly, things start getting weird...there are questions about the Self, about what makes a god, about what happens when mass communication and society integrate. It's very mature and has a slow pace for the first few eps...but I think I can say this: if the first episode leaves you wanting to know more, you'll enjoy the ride. I think every anime fan should see Lain at least once.

none of the above.
it's about loving Lain. it's about Opening your Mind. and it's about Memory in form of Record.
in my opinion anyways.
