View Full Version : Is it me, or is "Love Hina"s fan base exclusively made up of blokes?

Love Hina seems to be one of those romantic comedies out there that has an exclusively bloke oriented fan base.

Though it is warm, tender fuzzy, and not to mention the fact that the main male lead is FAR from perfect, it is accused by politically correct anime fans at large to be extremely mysogynistic.

This is more true in the manga than in the heavily sanitised anime.

Are there any female "Love Hina" fans out there, I wonder...

The manga DID set new records for casual nudity, ya know. That's why I prefer the anime. Casual nudity is all well and good, but it's a spice best used sparingly. Too much makes the dish distasteful. Anyway, I know a couple girls who think the show is just dandy, and they didn't like Hana Yori Dango. Lesson: it varies from person to person. Most of the girls at the anime society seem to like it. I've yet to meet a girl that likes Initial D, however. (And that suits me just fine, thank ye.)

Hrm... considering the cast of Love Hina is almost all female, I'm not surprised that Love Hina has a some what small female audience. Also if anyone has watched the Spring Special, there's noticable extra bouncing. :o

In reference to Dryden's comment, I know a girl that likes Initial D :)

Just a quick question:

What in blue blazes is "Initial D?"

I recently ordered the fansubs and am still waiting for it to come in the mail. When I get it, I'll let you know what this girl thinks of it.

I can't see what makes Love Hina such a male-orientated anime as apposed to other anime. I find it warm and funny and escapist and mainstream, and not desimilar to anime classified as 'girls anime.'

Even if it is directed at guys; all that means is that is their target audience. It will, as all other shows, attract viewers out of their target. That is just the way it goes.

Hmmm,I'd rather say casual hints at nudity.I the whole series and OAVs you don't see a single nude breast or behind.

Also of all my female friends that watched that anime,none didn't like it.

The only thing I regret is the sexism Naru shows toward Keitaro.For example,the ping-pong scene after they both go off after failing they're exams.Naru starts insulting Keitaro,who takes it with good will and then he insults Naru back and now suddenly it's wrong.

I've seen these types of scene in many animes,but it is more shown in Love Hina I believe

Well, the manga tis a Shoujo Manga but who care's these days?

I like it due to the lighthearted ness of the theme and mood. . . It gives me a break from those controversial series I always watch like Evangelion and Lain ^_^;

I actually prefer the manga by Ken Akamatsu over the anime. . .but it's all yer opinion to be true. . .

though Suu does get kinda annoyin with her huggin^^;;;
Naru continuously punches Keitaro (o_O);;
What's up with Mitsune? **;;;
Makoto rocks! muahahaha ::katana:: shineshineshine!!
Mutsumi rocks s'well. . .

Well, you haven't read the manga, now have you? ^^ When Keitarou finds out about Sara's birthmark, you get a full view of her butt in the manga. ^^ An' as for breasts, well ... [koffkoff] They're shown all over. Particularly Naru's, but ... [shrug] She was the lead female in an Akamatsu manga. That always has it's downsides. ^^

lol. when i first saw the manga, i was kinda blown away with the amount of nudity in there. but then i stopped and thought: "this is JAPANESE ... and it's manga ..." and from there, nothing bugged me anymore. :cool:

Naru seems to be the one who gets undressed the most for some reason. :lol: Some people say that's a good thing ... while others think it's just plain wrong. Take your pick. ^_^

I also prefer the manga to the series, but that doesn't mean i don't like the anime. :)

The manga has a more in-depth and focused exploration of the individual characters than the fleeting glimpses of personality among an ocean of comedy that was the anime.

Though the broad and surreal Monty Python/Mel Brook's humour IS still extremely amusing.

Of course it is. ^^

Naru, like I said, is the lead female character in the Love Hina manga. Akamatsu seems to have taken a liking to [koffkoff] "displaying" his lead females. [shrug]

Well, i think every manga and anime from Satoshi Urushihara win the palm for most casual nudity over Love Hina, but i don't mind^^;.

Yes i'm a bloke, Yes i'm a perv, and Yes i like Love Hina :B:

Keep in mind, however, that Akamatsu doesn't necessarily show off all his girls. Just th' one. ^^

Um *raises hand* Um... I'm a chick and I absolutely adore Love Hina :D So if that counts... I've kind of been desensotized to animated nudity though... which is great since if I wasn't I would be missing out on a great series... and um... Viva Naru!

To be blunt; if the series is orientated towards guys; then WHAT THE HELL IS WITH ALL OF THE DAMN SINGING?! I sure as hell know that I'd want to see more action, and less string vibrato, that's for sure.

Love Hina happens to be one series out of a thankfully growing genre of Romantic Anime (such as Ah My Goddess) which appeals to the sensitive and tender side of the Y Chromosome.

"Love Hina" is an extremely theraputic experience, as it shows that there is nothing wrong in being a soft, tender and unhandsome man as long as you are kind, caring and responsible. Sorry if I am not a jock, mate, but I seriously don't think loving feelgood musicals like "Singing in the Rain" classifies me as castrated.

Watching "Love Hina" relieves the virulent and widespread hopelessness amongst insecure males (I'm one of them) of not being loved for who you are, but for what other people want you to be.

It is the revolting social expectations that DEMAND men to be attuned to carnal and violent emotions that warp kind and gentle boys through peer pressure into mysoginistic wife beating pigs.

If anything, there should be MORE shows that appeal to the kinder side of the male psyche so that the next generation of adolescent males may finally relinquish the stigma of all of society's ills that is borne by their predecessors.

Good Night.

Did I ever mention I'm a hypocrite? I never said I didn't like the series; I just think it could do without the singing.

... Oh My Goddess is my favourite anime. Hell; that means I'm soft and tender?!

That's it; I'm gonna go kick some kittens around!

*sigh*

Oh my Goddess.... hands down My Favorite anime/manga. But since theres no forum to discuss my Favorite I can easily go with the Love Hina Forum since its so close to Oh My Goddess. :D I think my sig says it all? :heh:

And dang it... I am not soft and tender! :confused2 huh? whoops forgot to bring the puppy out. :rolleyes2

Soft an' tender? [blink]

I guess all I can say is, 'Well said, Cloakactive! Truly amazing post!' And, better yet, I mean it to. ^^ I love the way you presented yourself in that arguement, and I'm with you on it! ^^

Ok, I got four tapes of Love Hina in the other day and my husband and I watched the first one. We thought it was hilarious! I thought my husband was going to choke during some scenes, he was laughing so hard.

Damn right! Thanks to computer technology, Urashima Keitaro will fly smoother and tumble more fluidly in terror through the stratosphere than Saotome Ranma ever will.

Did you know that Ken Akamatsu formerly was a hentai doujinshi and non-h doujinshi artist before he became a mangaka? :eek:

True, if you visit his website and look at his collection of pevious fan mangas (notably the "Card Captor Sakura" one) you'll know EXACTLY what Foryth means....
