View Full Version : ADV's DVD presentation: Should I endure for the sake of the series?

I really, really, want to like Nadesico. Every snippet I catch makes it seem more and more like a series I should collect. I bought the first DVD. Egad. It's hard to imagine a worse DVD presentation then the one ADV gives us. I would rate the first four episodes as 'fair' rather than 'good,' but maybe that's just interference due to BAD design. So I put it to all of you Nadesico fans out there: Does the series get better, so that it shines through the poor presentation. Does the presentation itself get better? Remember, I want your opinions on the ADV DVD versions, not your fansubs.

PS: Do they EVER ditch the damn overlays? Or give you the option to turn them off?

No option sorry :( I think its pretty good quality other than the damn overlays and Dubtitles

well, it's me and my bitching about overlays again. :D

Like Ura said, good stuff except the bloody overlays. I'm not sure what you mean by the "presentation" of things, but if you mean stuff like how the main menu is set up and stuff, it looks the same through the first 4 discs so far.

The series IMO does get a whole lot better. You discover new things, interesting plot twists, neato character relationships and conflicts, etc.

ADV is a good and bad. I won't totally bad mouth them off too much as of yet. I want to finish my bgc 2040 collection before I blast and hammer them. :)

It's a great series, just try to bear with the overlays.

I hated that they took out the intro to the first episode. If you've seen the fansubbed version, you know what I mean...

I haven't seen the fansubbed version. What is this intro?

Well, they cropped out the intro and they moved the music to the first scene where the ship crashes. It flowed much better the other way.

And on the other episodes, they changed the intro into cheap looking CG. (Although, you can still see the original if you go into "extras" and click "textless opening")

I really don't think it looks that cheap, but thanks for the tip about the textless opening.;)

Yeah, the overlays suck.....but get this. Evangelion had the same problem at first. When fans griped about it enough they took them out of the remaining DVD's....now here's where it gets interesting. The Evangelion DVD Box set will have NO OVERLAYS at all.....they're currently removing overlays from the edited epps.

So with that in mind, Its obvious to me that a Nadesico DVD box set will appear. And if we fans were to "nudge" them in the direction that the Evangelions fans nudged...we might get a more authentic presentation.

Gripe away fans.....gripe till it hurts.

The title bit is rather suckworthy... they put Phobos and Deimos on the same orbit!! :D

I've been purchasing the tapes, so I really don't have an option as to what I get. however, the overlays do have some value, considering that some really useful information is presented on them, and the screen would fill up with garbage if they had subtititles for every little pop-up window.

Note in the scene with the UN headquarters, that the dialogue and the subtitles are completely different? That is SO DODGY!

But the series is pretty good. I think that they couldn't have a done a better job considering the voice actors they had to work with, so it could be worse (read Macross II). Don't complain too much or they'll stop making it.
