Hey hey, why is it that I seem to be the only Shinji fan around here? Sure there are plenty of Ayanami and Askua fans. Maybe some Misato fans too but am I the only person in the world who doesn't find Shinji to be a complete wuss??? He is da man! Sure he may be a bit of an introvert but in battle he is a warrior. If it ever came to a battle between the three Eva Pilot's My money would be on Shinji. Why? because he's nuts!!!! He is a maniac, just look at episode 19. He made that angel his B*&#^. Him and Unit-01 really know how to open up a serious can of whoop @$$. He is da man. I can identify with him well so that is another reason for him being my fav. Just put yourself in his position. His mother died(more like became Unit-01) when he was little then his mean father left him. I find that kind of a good reason to be the way he is. Some are even a tad appauled at some of the thing's he has done. I respect him more for it. Name one other cartoon character that has(pardon my french) jerked off. Let alone while stareing at a comatose girl. I say leave Shinji alone. Touji punched him twice and look what happened to him. Lost an arm and a leg so don't mess with Shinji because he's nuts!!!!

heheh the only reason asuka is my fav character is cus she know when to give shinji a good belting but she is crul to kiss him and than go cry about it

Did you stop to ask yourself why Shinji is the BEST of all NGE characters? These are MY conclusions.
All of the characters of NGE have nice and strong personality. Shinji is the only one who grows stronger by the time. All the other ones decrease (Asuka is mentaly ill, Rei is wondering why she exists, Misato is getting over Kaji's death, Ritsuko is grudged by jalousy ( like her mother- weird that she doesn't kill Rei but tries to kill Gendo)... our heroes have big problems issues). That is mostly why Shinji has my admiration.
However he is still a wuss when compared with Asuka (recovering from coma and battle against the Eva-series), Rei (battling against Kaoru's AT-Field), Misato (saving Shinji against Seele's military) and even Ritsuko (who comes back from her exhile when needed the most).
As for Shinji and the Eva-01 being the best team, there is no doubt about it. Since the first episode when Eva-01 saves Shinji we know there is a special bound between them. Shinji synchro-ratio doesn't stop to increase proving that he's learning to know his Eva. Then we learn what the special bound is, Yui's soul is in Eva-01, and we understand.
When we meet Asuka in episode 8, she already has a synchro-ratio superior to Shinji's. But with the time (and the fact that Shinji is getting better than her) her syncro-ratio drop. After Rei saves her life she gets mentally ill and can't make her Eva move. Asuka is out of the way. It is only at the end that her team is brought back to life when Asuka realize that her mother is in Eva-02 to protect her.
What about Rei? Eva-01 having Yui's soul and Eva-02 having Asuka's mother's soul, wich soul has Eva-00? I read (I don't remember where) that it would be Ritsuko's mother. Knowing how Ritsuko's mother likes Rei ;-> we can understand why it is not easy for Rei (or Shinji) to controle Eva-00.
What makes Shinji so special is maybe that he is the only male hero of NGE who's personality improves.
But all of the characters have their purpose in the strory and are irreplaceable. Well, that's my opinion...

I may have ended watching NGE liking Misato, and Rei, but it was Shinji and Unit 01, that made me want to find out more and keep watching each weeks episodes

I have been defending Shinji for ages now, check in the DBZ thread, Shinji was called annoying and a wuss with a crappy voice. He may not be my favorite charcter, but he is the character that is annalysed with a high level of detail with the result of making people understand him better than any other character, because of this focus on his life, all the bad thing he has done are brought out, because thats what mankind focuses upon. The bad things that have occured in their own existence. Each chracter has their bad streaks, showing weakness, fear....blah, blah. But by the time EOE credits, role he has made the biggest decions anyone every has. He adopted all the attributes in which the Tree Sephorphrica states, becomeing almost like a god.
I should say that my favorite character is Gendo or Kaoru, but hes an angel so thats cheating so I would say Gendo.

Simply because Kaoru is an Angel does not mean thats cheating. He is pinical to the entire story, especially if you take the story to be the growth of Shinji.
Yes Shinji is cool, but thats only because the rest of the characters are tools used for Shinji's growth, the only character that is equal to Shinji is Kaoru.
I do not know if this is coming across as i wish it. The other characters have their moments and their places and we love them for that.
In a way Shinji and Kaoru are the enternal Brothers, Cain and Able. It was only through the blood sacrifice of what Cain loved most dearly (his brother) that God broke the silence with Mankind and sent a Angel to begin Mans ascent back to Eden. And that ascent is a painful process of hard labour- which was explored so well in eps 25 and 26.

The reason I said that it is cheating to have him as my favorite character is because he is prorbably the most importanat character in the story, so he out shoots all the other characters to me anyway. So I think I can't really include him as my favorite, because he is... well an Angel, its an unfair advantage to all other chracters, so thats why I said its cheating to have him as a favorite chracter mainly becase hes an obvious choice.

imoho, Rei is a purty dern good fighter. The Dummy plug (which roughly copies her) was able to do a nice number on that eva when shinji refused to fight, I dunno, if there were a 3 way vs each other it could be close

Well I'll agree with you on that one as to how it would be close. Although Shinji is my absolute favorate to tell you the truth in a three way battle between the Eva's my money would be on Askua. She has the most combat training and skill. Also Shinji would refuse to hurt a human so there you go. Assuming he was seriously pissed I don't know though. Remember the can of whoop @$$ that he opened up on Zeruel(the 14th angel) right before he got absorbed into his Eva. Also Unit-01 has an S2 engine so if he cuts thier power cables they are dead meat but considering that is not the case and Shinji isn't pissed Askua would be the most likely to win but it would be very close. But I disagree with that Rei being the best fighter. The dummy plug doesn't mimic Rei's actions. Remember how the clones inside of the plug are soulless. Basically all the dummy plug does is trick the Eva into thinking that there's a pilot so it can activate, then all mental control is cut off because there is none and the Eva goes ape@$%^. It's a way to trigger an Eva going berzerk. That is why the pilot is preferred. so that they can control it. When Shinji refused to fight they cut off his neural connections and let the dummy plug take over so the programming in the Eva's brain will allow it to move because there is a pilot and once the control is lost the Eva goes nuts. It has nothing to do with Rei other than the fact that she is the main component or core of the dummy plug.
