2040 is a gritty and intense series that succeeds where the original has faltered: maintaining a balance between tender and touching humanity and apocalyptic horror. Also, gone are the GOD DREADFUL hairstyles and CHEESY 80's rock and IN are the subtle and sombre bass guitar tunes.

LONG LIVE 2040!!

If they attempt to mutilate it according to ironclad western morality, there would be precious few seconds left of any episodes left to show in the end. Hence they wisely settled for the profitable option of showing completely uncut episodes.

On a related note, Channel 7 showed "Silence of the Lambs" last Saturday at an "Adults Only" timeslot, and yet hypocritcally shortned Dr Lecter's brutal beating of a security guard with a billy club. Just goes to show that few things are safe from the filth soaked claws of censors, anime or otherwise.

If only they showed the subtitled version!! Its not as if the people who watch SBS are illiterate, dammit!! Why bother subtitling and showing foreign movies if that were the case!!

GIVE US SUBTITLED ANIME, PLEASE!!

Dubbed BGC:2040 isn't that bad

Sure, the dialogue of the dub is as witty, if not more so in places, than the original. For instance, in the scene when Linna contemplates what she would do to her perverted superior employee:

Japanese: I'll kill him

English: OOOOOOO!! I'd like to rip out HIS core!!

Given a choice I think anybody would find the second version more hilarious and witty than the palin and dry original.

However, one of THE gaping wounds of dubbed 2040 is Hillary Haag's absolutely ATROCIOUS performance of the formerly Kawaii Nene Romanova. Hillary made her sound like a cross between Fran Drescher on PMS and an old tom cat being castrated by a rusty chainsaw.

Otherwise, the dub is somewhat tolerable.

I never saw the original, so I have to say that her voice sounds alright.
