I was thinking of buying the dvd boxset and i heard it was pretty good. So i just wanted to hear your guys opinions.

The OVA series is great, I own it myself. The first ep seems a bit out of place, it actually slots into the middle timeline wise but it is a very good series. Well worth it. The DVDs are high quality

well there's a thered on RoLW. i'm currently waiting for this local video shop to release the other parts of the series - w/c im currently addicted to. however i havnt seen the OVA but im keeping an eye out for it. :D

I would totaly recomend it, ive seen about the firs 6 episodes and as I see it contains the perfect balance of magic and medieval style violence , not to mention an great storyline. :)

I would recommend buying the OVA. It's really well done. But I think I would probably buy something else instead of the TV series.

the tv series is ok too, at least in the tv series parn isn't mindlessy charing at this foe, he has some skill in the tv series :B

Yes they did show RoLW on the Sci-Fi channel before. I don't think they ever showed the completed OVAs though. At least I never was able to see the rest on Sci-Fi.

I own the RoLW on DVD and I say its worth it. Its one of the best fantasy based anime I have seen that tries to take itself seriously. The TV series of RoLW will be coming out in a DVD boxset sometime soon as well.

How many eps are there in the TV series? I rented 3 out of 6 tapes at my local anime shop and I'm going back for more ASAP. Was what I rented the TV series or the OAV? I really enjoyed what I saw, and I was glad Parn started gaining some skill and strength to go with his balls as time went along...

There are 26 episodes in the TV series and 13 in the OVA.
The TV series is subtitled as "The Chronicles of the Heroic Knight" so that might help you know if you were watching the OVA or the TV series.

ive just rented two volumes a few days ago, and i have no idea if it was the OVA or from the TV series. i think it was after 5 years have past since the war of the heroes. it was good :D

OAV - kick arse. Soundtrack, Opening and Closing themes are awesome. Story line is pretty good too. Animation much better then TV series.


TV SERIES:

The ROLW Chronicles is pretty "freaking" bad. The only "freaking" good thing about it is, is the "freaking" opening and "freaking" Lodoss Island segments. The "freaking" animation is inconsistent and at times really "freaking" BAD. The story line follows the same lines as the OAV. The "freaking" dub was not that great either, except for that "freaking" dwarf.

And there you "freaking" go.

Oh BTW, it is NOT 26 episodes! There's 27. I know it's wierd, but there's 27.

(If you've seen the dub, you'll understand this post much better ;))

i think they are great. definitely some of the better dubbs i;ve seen in Anime

I like the OVA better than the TV series, but I also like the TV series a lot. Its good that it tells the tale according to the original novels, and introduces us to some new characters.

Plus, the first 8 episodes, which follow Novel 3 and 4, are still about Parn and Deedlit, and the whole adventure with Spark and Neese still has the backstory of the War of Kings. The war of kings is actually pretty interesting.

The OVA has better animation, yes, but what TV series has better animation than its OVA counterpart? I think the animation is definitly ok. The story is great, and there are plenty of flashbacks which give you insights on Lodoss' history and character history (I especially like the scene where it shows you how Orson became a berserker).

You'll like the DVD, it has more than several episodes per disc. If I'm correct....

The OVA are far superior to the Tv series... The box set is excellent and the series itself is higly recommended. The animation of the tv series does not live up to what the OVA produced... some may argue at least its a new story line and its pretty good for a TV series..... the story line was only ok and the animation was very poor.... of course this is all my opinion... :heh:

The animation in the TV series at times was just downright UGLY ... AWEFUL ... THE PITS ... you get my point right? :) Storyline was okay ... I guess ... :)

OAV animation was much better IMO. DVD boxset for OAV's sucked in the "extras" category, but the show itself was clear and good.

i don't know what you're all talking about.. the television series' opening Animation is ENTIRELY BEAUTIFUL and the normal Animation is just as good as that of the OAVs.

of course, i haven't seen the entire series.. i was only able to watch a short scene after the opening. -_-

Well, I have the OVA box set now and am quite happy with the animation in it. The character designs are truely beautiful, in particular the villians.

I have not seen the TV series yet but it's near the top of my list.

well drizzen. i have only seen the first 6 dubbed tv series and sometimes the animation seriously "freaking" sucks. the dubbings ok thouhg

i haven't seen the oav yet, i'm really looking forward to it after seeing how good the tv series was, the opening is absolutely beautiful :bawling: i cry everytime i see it, and the overall animatiion is pretty good
