I'm sure everyone else has noticed some things about this show. For instance like the times when Naru gets really angry her eyes turn blood shot red (eva reference!).... ever notice that Mei-chan (Narus little sister) looks kinda like Asuka??? I mean thats huge (to me anyways) All they'd have to do was call her asuka-chan and you know it would be a dead reference..... am i the only one who thinks like this??? :confused2

You think THAT is odd? What of the shamelessly blatant Dragonball Z parody between Motoko and Seta in the Saiyuki play? Not to mention Su's rapid fire energy cannon that added to the atmosphere!!

Ummm thats not odd.... theres an acutal chinese story that dragonball was based on. Thats why i didn't find anything odd about it. And so what if motoko-chan was fighting seta-san... i don't think that was a dragonball parady at all.

Yes,it's a popular story for asian kids about a monk going on a pilgrimage with a monker that has magic powers.
I don't think Mei really looks like Asuka.Maybe the haircut is similar but that's it
i wouldn't say that naru having red eyes when shes agry denotes a reference to eva, red eyes are widely used for characters who are evil or really angry.
Mei-chan does have a little bit of resemble to Asuka (the young version) but not much... you have to be looking for it to notice.

Dragon Ball is based on a popular Chinese legend called the Saiyuki, or the "Journey to the West." It's incredibly popular, so it's not really parodized in Love Hina.
Actually, Love Hina is more of a Tenchi Muyo parody than that one scene is a parody of DB/Z.

Funny, it bares a closer resemblance to Ah My Goddess than anything else...(Especially in the designs of the leads: Keitaro=Keiichi. Naru=Belldandy.)

Actually, in a recent interview, Akamatsu Ken admitted that the entire franchise at heart is a tribute to the "Romantic Simulation" genre of computer games.

Do we have a link to that interview with perhaps a translation? Or a summary of the interview? I'd be very interested in reading that.

It actually appeared in a special volume called "Love Hina Zero", a "Love Hina CycloPedia" so to speak. I bought mine in Taiwan (translated to Chinese of course), but there is bound to be a Japanese copy lying around somewhere (hopefully) in a Japanese specialist store.
