I have a question about the physics of the AT field. When Unit 01 goes at it with the third Angle, it literally rips the Angle's field apart with its hands like the field is a tangible object. Its the same thing when Units 00, 01, and 02 catch the descending 10th Angle. Unit 00 (or 02 or 01, I'm not sure which one) uses it's progressive knife to cut open the field, and then uses its hands to pull it apart like a tangible object. I would really apreciate it if people would please explain to me all they know or theorize about the AT field.

Dude, it's a ------- TV show. I don't think there is really a theorie behind it. It's just something made for a Television series. Welcome to the board though and I'm sure someone with more time on their hands will be more than glad to bullshit an answer for though.

LOL, that's my standard arguement when having discussions about EVA....its a cartoon, and cartoons don't necessarily equal reality. But now, Captain Jake, you've let the cat out of the bag.........Who killed Kaji? It's a cartoon, it could have been anyone

Well, im afraid that except for eva2000, niether of those answers are appreciated, certainly not to a new-comer.
There is also a previous thread tlaking about A.T.Feilds though im not sure this question was raised.
My opinion, the A.T.field is a physical barrier (for angels). Remember it repeals noraml weapons ect. Also the angel you mention, the one that dropped from the sky, well, Misato says that it is using its ATFeild in a new way, that it is a living bomb.
There is also in EoE where Asuka uses her ATFEild to destroy a few airborn units annoying her.
In humans it is the wall of the Heart/Mind, a physical barrier that keeps everyone individual.
I really do not see any inconsistancies with it being physically ripped apart, as another ATFeild erodes it to a weaked point. (remember, the Evas must spread their ATFeilds to neutralise the angels ATFields, something which 02 failed to do against the 14th, and 00 failed to do against the 16th.)
I hope that your stay here will be more pleasurable than it has been so far.

Um, I haven't really seen all that much of the series, but it seems to me that an AT Field is just a technical name for a forcefield. Something that people can touch, stomp on, whatever. So, call me crazy, but that's just what I've picked up from what little I've seen.

An AT field is the light of the soul that seperates every living entity. Every being has an AT field, it is the thing that prevenets us from returning to LCL. Mankind lost the ability to actively use its at field as a physical defense or attack when we received the fruit of knowledge. AT stands for absoulte terror field. All living organsims possess an at field, the barrier of the heart and soul.
I am only guessing but I think that an At field works at like a specific frequency and when another field is met an altered to be resonate at the same frequency the two at fields become like one.... I dont think it really is canceling the other one... more the two at fields merge and the two beings can fight using hand to hand combat inside their own AT fields. But I am only guessing....

the reason evas can harm angels is they neutralize the angels fields.
kuaoru's field was stronger than eva 01's , but rei's field nullified even that.
the lance of longenous (and its copies) seem to have its own (anti-?) at field.
the 15th(? - the cool one that gets eaten) angel sprays blood onto its at-field, which implies it is a solid barrier...
also in eoe it is implied that every person has their own at-field which is what "holds their shape" (keeps their souls in their human body.. the at fields of the evas may be created by the imbedded souls of the evas, and is somehow amplified by the eva (??)
but, the whole point of the at-field is just an exuse as to why only evas can kill the angels. we dont know.. its also a pysch term (red book?).
and in eoe, unit 02 doesn't destroy anything using its at-field.

Yeah... now that I think about it... I see alot more flaws in my logic......
eg.
When the the EVA's had to catch an Angel... Auska sliced open a little hole in the at field... that contradicts my therory, oh well... hehe

If you watched the series, you will notice that all AT Fields have a specific frequency. When Eva unit 01 pried open the 3rd Angel's AT Field, it emitted an AT Field frequency that matched the Angel's AT Field, thus neutralizing both fields (I believe they used the term "Erode" in the episode).
I may be wrong, but that is what I remember from the last episode I saw.
