This is my first time viewing Lain (finally!) and i have to admit that i was pretty dazed from watching it. I was wondering why everyone knew Lain and everyone saw a different side of her... i've only watched 4 episodes so far but it seems as if Lain has changed overnight... and i can't see how her brain works at all... seems like you're one of the people who 'know' her, and you're not her... which is what most anime normally do.

Another strange thing i found about it is that, everyone in the 'real world, the one where we see lain walking around at school with her friends, fixing the computer... everyone seems secluded, separated or don't care about each other at all. all they do is a dream for them... as an example, that episode where lain went to the club for the first time and watched this guy kill himself in front of her. Next day in school, these girls talk about it as if it were something out of a movie... seeing blood was a thrill, nothing serious...

And of course, whou woudln't forget that email that said something about existing and living forever on the 'wired' so she killed her body... i get the impression that she really is still alive as she claimed... on the wired... but i'm not sure... i think she's alive, but in memory... not somehwere else, but hidden within people's thoughts and memory..

another note would be... first time you see it, you can't distinguish which one is the 'wired' or the real world... just the way its drawn sometimes looks fake and computer like... especially those shadows and those electric post noises... blink blink*

Would that mean that the world Lain exists in is something like the matrix? though its an existence within one imaginary world, that exists on another plane, and on another plane... if that made any sense...

more rants to come...

great that you're finally watching it.

but DONOT READ ANYTHING AHEAD FROM WHAT YOU"VE SEEN

please.

no.

PLEASE.

i can't stress that enough.

with Serial Experiments Lain, DONOT get ahead of yourself, especially if you've only seen the first four episodes. there's much more to come. and... sadly, i can't say anything to contribute to your comments until you see the rest.

If you never notice that our world become to center on individualism (everybody think about what can make him happier...more money more holiday...) If you look a lot for anime where action is in the real world where we live. You can see that people in Tokyo are not very sensitive to accident our helpless people... they just ignore them. Plus with all the violence that we can see on the movie it's normal to react like if it's was just a movie ... The idea of just a movie help to forget thr fear and the pain of a such terrible event....

I can just anwser that one because I've just watched once the whole serie wenesday night . I'm quite dazed.:heh:

This is something I've always wondered about. Lain's attitude for the first 3 eps can be summed up as a scared naivete with a twist of curiosity. Then, in the 4th ep, she changes into something (slightly) more upright and assertive. I understand hoe empowering computers are, but there must have been something else to her subtle change...

I'd have to agree with heart havok here--my viewing experience is much happier when I stay away from the posts until I finish the series; there's far too many spoilers out there. With a series as short and sweet as Lain is, spoiling it is practically a sin.

seriously, don't try to understand it until you watch all the episodes. you'll just create more levels of confusion within your metemperics. walk the walk and then talk the talk, woman.

Ack! :( that stinks...after seeing the first one, I had to see the second. Then after seeing the second I HAD to see the third one..then, hehe. You get the point. Lain is such a rollercoster ride, you have to ride the whole thing to get the full effect of it.

Its basicaly one long movie...thats what I love about it. You CAN NOT miss any episode if you expect to pull the full meaning from it.

"woman"...? :dodgy:

I hope you get the rest of the series. You've only seen about 10% of the interesting stuff. Keep your rants coming. ;)
