For a romantic comedy, Love Hina contains four of the most powerful "normal" human beings in anime. I define normal here in the terms of not inheriting any alien/cybernetic/demonic/angelic power here, but by pure training.

The aforemetioned Collosi are:

1) Narusegawa Naru, the most powerful puncher since Tendo Akane.

2) Kaolla Su, the most devlishly ingenious inventor since Wakubi Washuu and the best fly kicker and acrobat since Jet Li.

3) Seta the Archaeologist, Jeet Kune Do master.

4) Aoyama Motoko of Shinmei Ryu, the best "normal" swordsman since Himura Battousai of the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu.

My, this Romantic Comedy has a dangerous cast, does it not?

Good Night.

Dangerous is right. [shudder] And to think that's "normal." O.o

Yep, to quote Su, his "hit points" (IE. Life Points in Role Playing Games like Dungeons and Dragons) is among the highest in any human being.

He might as well as be MADE of adamantium, don't you think?

Anyhoo, would anybody like "Big Eyes Small Mouth" RPG stats of the six main Love Hina characters? I can't do them due to a 3000 word monstrosity I must complete, but I'll be able to complete them by friday.

Good Day.

"Big Eyes Small Mouth" is a role Playing Game (like Dungeons and Dragons) produced by a small yet now higly successful Canadian company called Guardians of Order. Its main focus is to simulate the world of Japanese animation, but yet is cinematic enough that it can be adapted to any campaign by a creative enough Dungeon Master.

It utilises a highly efficient "Tri-Stat" system that runs on two normal six sided dice. Your stats (Body, Mind, Soul. Hence the name "Tri -Stat") ranges from 1 (Abysmal) to 12 (Best in the Universe). To succeed in an action, all you need to do is roll under the stat, modified by the difficulty of the task, on two six sided dice.

That's how simple it is!! Without clunky tables getting in the way, the players and Dungeon masters can focus on the comedy, drama and romance moreso than other RPGs out there!!

Pop down into your local Comics/Sci-Fi/Role Playing Games Store and ask for either "Big Eyes Small Mouth 2nd Edition" or "Tenchi Muyo RPG."

Money well spent, they are!!

Yep, i've had the Tenchi Muyo RPG/Ressource book for quite a while, but i haven't had the chance to playtest it yet. Have you actually played with the system? If so how well did it go?

Unfortunately, fellow Role Player, I do not ever have nearly as much time as I used to have before Year 11 to write up adventures as a Dungeon Master (WE RULE!!) or be the players in them. The main reason of me purchasing the Tenchi RPG is for its SPLENDID asthetic aspects and my devotion to the franchise.

However, from what I have seen, the Tri Stat System is easily THE most elegant and concise generic engine for any role playing game I have seen in the last decade, with Dungeons and Dragons 3rd Edition in close second place. Litttle preparation on the part of the Dungeon master is required as long as the Players have fully made character sheets and as long as he/she has a rough plot outline. Its even more elegantly flexible than "Vampire the Masquerade" or "Werewolf the Apocalypse" (Two masterpieces themselves to begin with.)

Another MARVELOUS game that runs with the Tri-Stat System is "Ghost Dog; Way of the Samurai." And all we Jet Li fans are also drooling for the arrival of "Hong Kong Action Cinema 2nd ED" and "El Hazard RPG", both of which will be FULLY compatible with any other Tri-Stat Game.

WOO HOO!!

(Smirk)

It would not be too unplausible to assume that Keitaro is Wolverine's illigitimate son now, wouldn't it. After all, his regenerative physiology is the most astronomical we've seen in anime blokes to date.

(Smirk Smirk Indeed.)

just give me D&D any day. I hate constraints brought out in any Computer RPG. Hopefully, Neverwinter Nights Should fix that

Thats right, old man.
Paper and pencil,
dice and figures,
soda and chips,
the good "old school' way.

May it never die out, even in this rapidly digitised age.

Only down side is when you lose your character sheet. I've had to remake my Level 4 character 4 times, in as many adventures!!!

Thats why you:

A) Don't hack and slash. Explore your character as person, allow him or her to live and grow. It would be a spiritually and emotionally fulfilling experience.

B) Photocopy your character sheets. Since your characters are your children in a way, you should cherish and protect them by any means rationally necessary.

and

c) Do not play with "Munchkin", hack and slash Dungeon Masters.

Hope my advice helps you, grasshopper.

Good night.

Maybe the photocopy one, other than that, I've been RP'ing near 5 years now. I know what I'm doing, and I've found a level-headed DM, and some good players to boot.

You are a lucky man, Coign. My Dungeon master, who runs Planescape, ROUTINELY FORCES HIS PLAYERS TO BE DEMONS AND MUTANTS AT 4th level AND THEN FOCES US TO GO UP AGAINST 5 DEMIGODS AND A TARRASQUE AT ONCE!!

Hell, all I wanted was a Shaolin Monk trapped in Sigil, and he FORCED me to have weird tatoos that give my weapons magical bonuses, Rougue's power drainage, a bladestaff not unlike Darth Maul's weapon, and the ability of resist fire. And this at 3rd level!! I was basically forced to play a combat monster when all I wanted was to portray an outsider discovering the beauty of the planes!!

That's why you don't play with "Munchkin" Dungeon Masters.

Nope. My party ATM HATES high-level chars, and are much more into character building. It's a ball!

Lol!!!You got a strange DM Ronin Aquilla.

I like to give my players extra powers for fun,but I make sure they sweat for it lol.

I say the best advice is that when your players reach 9th level (ie. Knighthood), let them go on one last glorious adventure (make it repelling an invasion) and then retire them, leaving nothing but fond and sweet memories instead of petering out with overlong campaigns.

By the way, this Dungeon Master is and RMIT University student who calls himself "Igor." He is a bigtime goth with an almost unhealthy obsession with playing the talking skull "Morte" from the superb game "Planescape: Torment."

Pray that you are his DM and not the other way round!!
