View Full Version : "Waiting For You": The Best Ending Theme Ever!!
Ronin Aquila
01-05-01, 03:06 AM
The ending theme of Bubblegum Crisis 2040 is easily the most moody, melancholic, yet touching and tender songs in anime. Warm yet cynical, bitter yet hopeful, set against the low, sombre and passionate beat of a bass guitar, "Waiting For You" at the same time fully sets the bleak yet humane tone of "Tokyo 2040" and stands out by itself as a masterpiece of grunge rock.
If only there were awards for best anime songs. This one, along with Hayashibara Megumi's "Give A Reason" (Of Slayers Next) dearly deserves one.
Actually, "Idea" from that same series is MUCH better......

When does that song appear?
Episode 4 I think. The English version sucks.......but the Japanese version is GREAT!

Dammit, why dub the songs at all!? I mean, keeping it the way it is makes it sound a LOT better. Its not as if we otakus are bloody ILLITERATE, is it?
I'll listen out for "Idea" the next time I watch the show, mate!!

They only really dub them when Priss sings and it's pretty stupid if you have the english dub and everyone talks in english that out of nowhere Priss gets up on stage and starts belting out a song in Japanese.
I actually like the bits of songs that are done in english.
If you wan't a good vocal CD buy Bubblegum Crisis tokyo 2040 As Sekira. It's an awsome CD. "Blue Confusion" RULZ!!
Ronin Aquila
01-05-01, 11:06 AM
Not that much of a problem considering that both the English Priss and Japanese version have practically the same singing voice. But hey, at least they made a genuine effort for a good English translation!!
Unfortunatly you need more than effort.

......has to be Ame, that is just such a nice song. Not such a fan of Blue Confusion myself, which isn't to say I dislike it, I'm just not that bothered about it.
Overall though, I do prefer the 2032 soundtrack, maybe because I'm an 80s retro fan at heart!
Yay. That another vote for my side

Come on, mate, its not the end of the world!!
After all, you can download more!! And worse comes to worst, you can always download Windows Media Player Version 8, which enables you to copy songs off CDs with compressed file size and CD quality sound, which can then be transported into a portable device!! I'm sure there are fellow Otaku out there who would be more than happy to temporarily accomodate you with a nice selection of CDs to satisfy your new collection!!
Don't forget, download Windows Media Player 8: The Jap-Music fan's best friend!!

** I've only seen up to ep 8 in English.
The English versions of the songs weren't that good.
In the first ep, the VA didn't even bother humming the tune Jap Priss was humming when she apparently next to a body of water, sitting on the ground. You know (no pun intended), around the time Nene is called out of the shower.
And when I did hear her sing, my immediate reaction was *gack*. I gave it a second shot around ep7 and 8, eyes shut. Still no good. The feel was all wrong, the words had no impact, and she did not sound like she could sing. I think Killing Heidi (a local band in Australia) could have done better blind-folded, ear muffed, and sang with a peg on their nose.
The motto. If the VA can't sing, find somebody that can. It can't cost that much more and you'd avoid bad press like this.
"Waiting for YOU" is a great ED. First time I heard it, I couldn't wait to hear the full ver. I'm not sure, but I think there is also a version where Linna (or at least one of the Knight Sabers) sings it.
Long as we're talking Great BGC2040 songs, don't forget "journey". It's great too.
PS: The English versions of songs in Slayers and Tenchi Muyou. Now those sound good even though I still prefer the Japanese versions.

Yet another reason why i wish to buy the DVDs as soon as humanly possible. Thank God MADMAN have released them....just the $$$...gah...
And yes, Waiting for You is a great song. I'm not sure if it's the best ending song I've heard, but it's up there with the leaders...

Well, actually, the first time I heard Waiting For You, I didn't really like it at all . . . but now its really grown on me . . . just like the intro song as well . . . although I don't think I'll like them as much as the Slayers Music, they've definately earned a spot on my much coveted Anime playlist . . :D

Well, I haven't heard the songs of Tenchi Muyou, but definately Somewhere of Slayers Try is a great English song . . .although the English version of Get Along, called 'Fair Wind', I think (??) . . . well, I think the smilie face speaks for itself . . . :vomit: . . . although I must admit that the tune and lyrics seem alright, but the singer . . . just doesn't seem to fit right . . .perhaps its because I'm so used to a female voice singing it . . . :D

Oh god. The english version of the songs are just terrible.
Listen to the songs in Japanese, the japanese songs are simply.......terrific. They are some of the best songs I have heard. You can get them at Anime Nation (http://www.animenation.com) for a pretty good price. Some of the best Japanese songs are Y'know, Idea and Waiting for You.
Not the best ending but still a brillant song. And i must say that it fits in the BG very well.

The orgional series music was well-done, because besides just translating the words, they re-interpreted the music and stuff, so everything matched... not to mention LIP-SYNCHING!!! 2040 looks really bad when priss keeps a note but her mouth moves constantly.
There is a LOT of good anime music... I love "burning heart" from Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories, and of course "you get to burning" from Martian Successor Nadesico.

It's on the CD called "Priss Asagiri: As Sekira", Track 8, I think. A friend borrowed all my BGC CDs so I can't comfirm for now. If I remember correctly, the CD also opens with a different version of "Waiting for YOU" with "Re-Tracked" in brackets, whatever that means.
There's also one other version on the "Bubblegum Crisis 1999 Collection" (I think that's the name) where one of the other Knight Sabers sings it.

Just dropped in to Tamachan's site and she just got the Japanese original of the said "Bubblegum Crisis Collectors File 1999" for AU$65 bucks. I'm still pretty sure there's still no Taiwan knock off of this soundtrack yet so now is the time if you want it.

I think the dubbers are getting better at what should be converted to English and what remains Japanese... and I agree... I think the songs should by default remain in Japanese ... as well as cultural items in the dialogue.
... a good example of decent dubbing can be found in Niea under 7 ... I was pleasantly surprised by how watchable the english version was ...
... anyway... as for BGC music... Konya wa Hurricane and Mad Machine... and in general the 203x soundtracks rock....

Also can anyone please tell me which soundtrack the song is on and where i could buy the soundtrack?
Is "waiting for you" longer on the soundtrack then it is during the ending credits?
Ronin Aquila
06-10-01, 09:53 PM
The singer's name is Akira Sudou. And yes, Waiting for you is played in the end credits.
Incidentally, although Asakawa Yu does the voice of Priss in the series, it is still Akira Sudou who sings when Priss makes performances, showing that not all seiyuus are good singers.

Thanks for the feedback Ronin. I hope to see you post more in the bgc forum.

Say, is bgc2040 being aired in America because down under its almost finished. Weve only got 5 more episodes to go.
Is there a lot of Anime shown on American tv?
MegaMan
07-10-01, 12:08 AM
Bubblegum Crisis 2040 isn't being shown on American TV. :( It sucks, but I bought all 6 DVDs. They show some anime on TV, but right now they are airing Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Cowboy Bebob, Pokemon, Digimon, Transformers: Car Robots, Big O, Tenchi, and some others. I don't think they will be able to get away with Bubblegum Crisis on the main network that shows alot of animation because it's mainly a kids oriented channel. But I do hope that MTV will pick it up sooner or later.
matthew
07-10-01, 12:15 AM

What about Neon Genisis? Is that shown on American tv?
MegaMan
07-10-01, 12:18 AM
Yea I have been through all 6 DVDs and been through all the profiles. But I would have liked to have had more extras for $30. Character Profiles isn't that much, but I guess the fact you get dubbed and subbed is an excellent addition.
MegaMan
07-10-01, 12:21 AM
Some DVDs are cheaper than others, but some are evilly expensive...And you can basicly get anything on DVD now, or have to wait a month or so to get it. The video stores in my area seem to double their DVD Anime selection every few months and are finally starting to lower their prices on some of the DVDs I want most. Neon Genesis is not on american airwaves...you have to buy the DVDs.

:ahem: Considering the political pull that the Catholic Church has on American society, there would sooner be a reprisal of the Spanish Inquisition than a screening of Evangelion on mainstream television.

Yeah. There are two long versions on the As Sekira CD, the original and "RE-TRACKED" versions. The short version, if you want it, is on the Collectors File 1999, also at Tamarket but it'll cost a fair bit since Taiwan hasn't copied it yet. Heck, to the best of my knowledge, they haven't even copied the second OST. :p

Ronin Aquila
08-10-01, 03:44 AM
The TV sized version is under 1 minute long, whereas the original is a full 5 minutes and 32 seconds. The original is a hauntingly soulful ballad of finding the faint yet warm glimmer of hope within the gloomy decay of industrialised urbania. The TV version was just a (still) cool sounding rock tune.
wstml32
08-10-01, 04:07 AM
So what is the difference between the original version and the remix version of "waiting for you"?
rei-gouki
08-10-01, 11:03 PM
Waiting for YOU (Re-Tracked) 6:05
As a different, longer intro. Strong beat. I consider this track to be concert style.
Waiting for YOU (Normal length ver) 5:32
Essentially the same as the TV ver only longer.
Waiting for YOU (TV ver) 1:28
Do I really need to say anything?
Waiting for YOU (by Rio Natsuki (Linna)) 5:29
Basically the same as the Normal length version with a different vocal.
