Does anyone know if there's any meaning behind the colours of the evas? Cos, seriously, Eva 01 painted Purple, Green and Black, that a sign of some funky thinking, or somebody's just been smoking something pretty damn heavy.
I was reading some stuff about Feng shui, and it said that wearing the colour purple indicates spirituality awareness, and the mind (kinda like Shinji), and blue indicates calm, cool and soothing(pretty close to Rei), while wearing Red attracts recognition and respect, and is a colour for confidence (Definately Asuka).

Anyway, that's just my thoughts. Tell me what you think
Ciao

The Eva's are actually coulored because they are symbolic of the four horsemen of the Apocolypse or something like that. One of them was a one eyed creature which brought famine. That was indefinitely Eva-00 because it costs so much that people in other countries starved to death. The next one(my fav) was a purple demon with a devilish grin. That is so Eva-01 it's not funny, it brought fear. Just look at that thing and tell me it's not at least a tad scary. Then there was the one who brought war. Which was red the coulor of blood and war. I don't think I really need to tell you which Eva that was. Then there was the horseman of Death. It was black, the coulor of death and was quite and said nothing. sounds kinda like Eva-03 don't it? The other one's are pretty irrelevant.

I have heard that the EVA's were taken from the appocloypse horsmen, but here is another idea for you;

"Along with the beast came four barrans of Hell. The first had only one eye, the second, a long horn and a mouth full of fangs and an evil grin. The third had four eyes and two mouths and the last was black as night with alongated arms."

Do I have to explain?

Both of these thoughts are correct, in fact they are the same. It all depends which version of the bible one reads. The King James (the cool, gory version) speaks of the Four Barons of Hell while the Good News (edited for younger readers) has the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, but doesn't go into detail. Anyway, in an interview, Hideki Anno himself said they were based upon Japanese devils...but these devils may have been based on christain beliefs which spread like a virus (sorry to any christians out there) after the 'coming' of Christ and may have reached Japan in some 'mutated' form.

First of all you and I are both right Access. You said what I was thinking of. The correct name just escaped me that's all. Also shizm. Don't say stuff like spread like a disease, becuse were you not one of the most ignorant people on this board you'd realize that Chirstianity is fairly big in Japan. Don't go calling the biggest religion on earth a disease!

It's bigger than you'd think actually. I forget the actual percentage. I think that Catholic is the main one. or Protestant or something like that.

I was under the impression that the muslims were the biggest religion on earth, but being in a western/christinaised culture we simply dont get told this information.

Christianity is the world's third religion by following population, after Islam and Buddhism. And it is an insignificant(<5%) religion by population percentage in Japan.
I don't think anybody referred to X'tianity as a disease except you, Cap'n. Not all virus carry disease.

I always though that buddism was the largest in the world, because of the Chinese. It's like with the language. Most people in the world speak Chinese that English, merely because of the purely overwhelming number of people in China.

In Japan, I was under the impression that Taoists or Zen Buddism was really popular, but still, I doubt if censuses are carried out really often on religion.

And calling Christianity a virus, although its true that not all viruses are bad, the majority are, but Cap's pretty right - its not really nice to say something like that about something so close to so many people's hearts.
This is a pretty off comparision, but that would be like some gundam collector (not that I got anything against Gundam) saying that Eva is just a mecha anime. Now I think we all love Eva (otherwise we wouldn't be here), and we wouldn't really want anybody saying anything that could even be considered offensive about Eva.
Now I'm an Baha'i, but if somebody said something even slightly nasty against it, I'd be pretty ticked off as well.

Like I said, Islam has the world's largest following, Buddhism next, and then X'tianity. China isn't really into Buddhism, they had Confuciunism and Taoism before the Buddha was born. Buddhism is mainly practised in India for obvious reasons, and in other Southeast Asian countries.

Japan's dominant religion was Shinto, before Zen Buddhism was imported via mainland Asia. X'tianity was introduced to Japan by the Portugese, but they were isolated on an island, their religion was shunned and Japanese convertees were prosecuted and executed by the government. X'tianity still remains a minority religion in Japan to this day.

About the virus analogy, I'm an agnostic, so I really don't care. I just pointed out that Cap'n assumed virus = disease. I thought it was a good analogy, though, the way it describes the spreading.

chinese ppl dont all speak chinese...its this stereotype that gets me. there are alot of dialects like mandarin, cantonese, hokkien and others which are totally separate languages but the dominant ideology seems to group these as one, 'chinese'.

sorry had to get it off my chest.
