OK... I own the DVD box sets for FY... i also have fasubs for FY.... while i love the picture quality of the DVD box sets, I personally feel that the translation job done on my fansubs was top of the line and a closer translation then the commercial release. How bout the rest of you? Your own opinions???

So far I've only seen the English dubbed version on VHS. I'm trying to convince my friend who has a DVD player to buy the boxset, but she won't... ;_; Sho doesn't really like Fushigi Yuugi all that much....

The dub is a horible, ^@$#*sucking peice of *%&#@*&%@#....

Now that that's out of the way...

Yes, the fansubs were ever so much more lovingly translated. The fans try a LOT harded to keep it Japanese...and although the picture quality of commerical releases often DOES kick the boot-ay of fansubs, I'd still rather have the fansubs...because I don't have to sit and scream at the TV, "THAT'S NOT WHAT HE SAID~!!!"

^_^. ;; Am I the only person who likes the dub? C'mon, it's not as bad the Sailormoon dub!

If the person's seen the sub, they should like it better...if not...there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with their minds.

Again, the dub sucks hard.

Now, if I had a choice in the matter, I'd watch the sub. I [hart] most of the FY voice actors (Seki Tomokazu-sama!), but the is, I don't really. The only place near me that sells FY is Suncoast, and they only have the dub. I don't feel like driving a long way to find somewhere that sells the sub, nor do I like ordering online. So I watch the dub. It isn't really that bad people. I'll admit, the fact fact that they changed Chichiri's no da made me mad, but othere than that, I like it ok! Just think, they COULD have done to FY what they did to Sailormoon. Just keep telling yourself that.

Thats why you switch the options on the dvd player. Japanese language with subtitles. :D

No, no, what I MEANT is that the COMMERCIAL released version that Pioneer put out (Those Responsible for the DVD that I DO NOT have) make REALLY bad translations and their subtitles are very often incorrect. I'll sit and scream at the TV because I can hear and understand what the person is really saying, but the subtitles are wrong...

And, as far as I'm concerned, the FY dub IS as bad as the Sailormoon dub. When you have to listen to Tasuki's dub voice screaming the incantation so horribly and the whole time think, "LET'S GET IT ON~!!" (see Ref. Dub version of BASTARD!! Pioneer release, episode 5) Not to mention the HORROR of Tamahome's dub voice TRYING WAY TO HARD to sound cool...

well, for myself, I have no other choice than watching the dub ^^;;; I rent the whole series and the first OAV (and copied them... shhhhh) at a video store nearby, but they only have dubs..... here, sub doesn't exists ¬¬;;;;;; and FY eps are soooo difficult to find on the net... I've only seen the bus trip in jap, and we don't hear the voices quite well in that.... but I love Chichiri's jap voice ^^

Yes, Tomokazu Seki is a master...he also did Kouji. ^..^ The one, ONE scene where Chichiri and Kouji are together is pretty funny...not that Tomokazu didn't have to talk to himself enough in that part...
