2) Slayers Next (Lina RULES!!)
3) Bubblegum Crisis 2040 (Long Live AIC!!)
4) Love Hina ("Aww, its so cute)
5) The Simpsons (Its American, but it is animation and it is THE MOST cleverly scripted one in the world.)

Good Day.

yeah

futurama is a cool show

but Anime Kicks anything that faces it

Ronin Aquila

Agreed.

Come to think about it, good as the Simpsons is, it is as subtle as a brick when it tries to present its satirical view on current and relevant issues. Whereas anime is subtle and the confonting issues is written into the emotionally multitexualed fabric of its stories and universes.

It would have to be........

1) Bubblegum Crisis OAV
2) Bubblegum Crisis 2040
3) Ghost in the Shell
4) Dragon Half
5) Slayers
6) Evangelion

Not that there is a great deal to choose between them though!

Quick run down of why I've rated everything where.....

1) BGC has got to be first, I just love that show. Great characters, superb Mecha designs, decent animation with real atmosphere, and a soundtrack I liked so much I spent 4 months tracking down every mp3 of it I could lay my hands on.

2) BGC 2040 - I bought it for the Nene! Need I say any more. Hopeless Nene-chan fan :)

3) Ghost in the Shell is totally awesome, and I like it more everythime I watch it. The animation and artwork is gorgeous, and the soundtrack lends to the incredible atmosphere. A thought provoking story with some superbly done action sequences are just icing on the cake.

4) Dragon Half is just too damn funny!

5) Slayers - Silly amounts of explosions and hillariously funny to boot, a real epic, just like a decent Anime should be. I wan the Sword of Light and I wnat to be able to do the "Pacifist Crush"!

6) Eva came 6th, primarily for the fact that although it has some superb action sequences, and some brilliant characters (Misato especially), it just doesn't quite all hang together. For a start the original eps 25 and 26 just killed the whole series for me, and the huge pauses in the last few episodes due to budget cuts just got slightly annoying. I despise Shinji, just for the simple fact he takes being pathetic to a whole new level. Plus, despite End of Eva being far better than eps 25 and 26, the end was still far too bizzare. The problem is that it builds up to a point, then offers nothing beyond that. It promises much but fails to deliver. Doesn't stop me liking it, but does make sure it will never be my favourite Anime show..........

Phew! Glad that's over :) Hope this answers your question Fireyskull

Heres my ranking

1) Nauscaa of the Valley of the Wind
2) Bubblegum Crisis 2040
3) Bubblegum Crisis OAV
4) Sakura Wars
5) Love Hina
6) Gundam Wing 0083: Stardust Memory (THATS THE THRID TIME YOU'VE GOT IN MY WAY TODAY!!!!! :))
7) Neon Genesis Evangelion

as you can see, I'm a bit of a mechhead.... here are the reasons

1) Its just a great anime, and I really like the "medieval world of the future" type stories.

2), 3) Because its got hard-suits, girls, boomers and big big guns :)

4) More mecha actions. But this time, they run off STEAM.

5) Its really odd, but SOOO funny.

6) Even more mecha action and madness, and that makes for a good anime

7) Same as above, but its too odd for my liking. and shinji needs to get some balls.

EVA isn't that strange, but it is disjointed and that is a problem.

Mind you, the original BGC was botched, there should have been more episodes and Priss should have died in Ep6, but that didn't happen. Why do you think the main plot thread stops 2Eps before the end?!

But who cares?! Ep7 is great and Ep8 is the "Nene episode", and for that reason alone is the best episode in the entire thing!

"Ha, I contribute to the Knight Sabers with my great looks and amazing brain!"

Class, pure class, and I want that scooter!

eva isn't dying, it already more or less is dead.

Unfortunte but true

Ronin Aquila

Eva is one of those franchises that has attained the "Star Trek: The Original Series" distinction of being a retired yet revered series, nay, benchmark on which every single series of the Mecha genre MUST AT LEAST equal or excel to be even barely recognised.

Dead, yes. Forgotten, definitely not.

Kawanua the Samurai

no it can't be true

If EVA is dead then I'm a small root vegetable!

Nadesico is EVA's equal though, despite the fact they come at the Mecha genre from two completely different angles. Basically, you watch them for two different things, and they both deliver. Nadesico is very cleverly written though, it does tend to screw with your conceptions somewhat.

Prime example: I bet everyone was laughing at Yurika doing the funerals for the people on the space station, but you then feel really odd as you're laughing at people dying!

EVA never makes any real illusion of being a comedy, but it has its light moments, which make the way the series becomes so dark later on even more potent.

EVA isn't dead by any stretch. Hey, they are still releasing the Manga for it, and the DVDs, plus it is always going to be one of the best "finite" Anime shows around. By finite I mean that it isn't a DBZ, or a Sailor Moon, or a Pokemon, which just go on for ever really.

Anyway, isn't this meant to be a BGC thread?! BGC kicks EVA and Nadesico anyway :) I'll quite happily debate that with anyone!

Though BGC 2040 may be bleak like Evnagelion, it is ultimately superior because it shows that hope can shine through the darkness of adversity with faith and action.

Come on, nothing to be ashamed of. The 10 minute shorts of "Rayearth" and "Evangelion" (which I think most other bloke anime fans have at least glimpsed out of curiosity) are to be viewed as entertaining freak shows like "Jerry Springer."

Highly amusing, somewhat disturbing, yet ultimately irrelevant and not to be taken seriously.

Its not the end of the world that you saw ONE hentai video. Like horror movies, as long as you don't get unhealthily addicted to them (and get your prostate wasted in the process), the occasional fulfilment of our dark natures keeps the beast from snapping the chain. And is hence healthy if done in a controlled manner.

You're A-O-KAY, mate!!

Evangelion as it is will never die since the its ideas and feelings are about the inside of people, the unconscious. Though we can explore it, we will never be able to fully conquer this vast ocean.

Other, ego driven series will slowly die as people get bored with all the surface stuff like, cool robots, cute girls, fight scenes and cliches.
