Ok, for some odd reason after being on the Star Wars site, I kept thinking about Lain. At first I couldnt make the connection, what was it that made me think about Lain while surfing the SW site?

Well it hit me....Lains little lock of hair she has...the Jedi's have that too! Ok I know thats just silly, but maybe if a peep who has Jedi knowledge could explain this to us, perhaps there is some unknown reason as to why Lain would have this longer piece of hair like that as well.

Pehaps some kind of "religious" meaning, or a sign of comitment to something...

Or perhaps the Wired invades my every thought...and Lain is with me, her presence...Or perhaps my blood sugar is low cus I havent ate lunch yet, and its goin to my head :D

Star Wars Otaku here...

Err... I haven't seen Lain yet, but I'm willing to make an assumption. That being that it's just a coincidence.

Yes. Coign's theory. Good. Right.

The Force and the Wired...the 'force' that consists of the Schumann Resonance maybe?

 Damn Drizz dont try and make it sound stupid or anything. Oh and you still didnt answer me Mr Star Wars Otaku..I know it has been described in a novel about why they have the locks of hair.

The Force Wired thing was a joke of course...but honestly I think Lains lock of hair has some meaning, I mean people comment on it in the series...and it does stand out, perhaps it is just one more sybolism yet to be discovered.

Maybe the bloody artists were Star Wars fans!

Yes, the locks of hair had some meaning that an author butchered into the Star Wars Continuum, but for that meaning, from a relatively askew source, to be used in an anime to convey the same meaning is too far fetched.

It was probably done out of whimsey.

You dont know what it means, do you?

I don't need to know what it means.

...

So I forgot, big deal! It's still irrelevant! The fact of the matter is that if there is a meaning, the Star Wars universe is not a place to look. Everyone's still a little disorientated from the 'Force-Symbiote' cop-out in Episode 1.

Well I think I just figured out Lain now. You see Ghost in the Shell happens in the future, past the time of Lain. What if Lain is the origin of The Pupetmaster!

Click second file in Sig, you will here the erie similarity between him and Lain....ooooohhhhh

Oops, I forgot to mention something.

If this locks concept was derived from anywhere, it may be from the same source as the Star Wars locks concept, if there is anything material behind it at all.

*ahem*
I am willing to accept any and all theories concerning Lain. However, there is no guarantee I'll agree with them. :)

To be honest, I have no explaination why Lain has that lock of hair. I personally feel it's just a quirk of her character the artists included.

:D Ok soo umm wrong about Star Wars...but look what I found! Some peeps at Anime Grapevine dug this up.

Explanation: Lain's hair.

In the October 1998 issue of "FRUiTS" magazine, Yasuyuki Ueda (the producer of SEL) discusses Lain's hair in an interview.

Ueda asked the original character, Yoshitoshi ABe, to make Lain's hair the way it is. In the interview*, Ueda said:

I wanted to make her an ordinary girl, but I didn't want to make her just an ordinary girl. I wanted to give her something unusual, and break down a symmetrical balance.

She extends only the left forelock. Because she is a "radio waves", so called. She believes that it can be prevented from something hearing it from the left ear of her. There is a setup of the charm in her hidden somehow.

The second paragraph is a bit unclear. I believe it meant to say that Lain (according to Ueda's original concept, anyway) is paranoid of (mind-controlling?) radio waves entering her left ear, so she covers it with her forelock to prevent that from happening. This is all part of Lain's subtle charm.

Ueda talking bout Lain being paranoid of radio-wave mind control? I have to admit that freaked me out... either it was a joke, or I don't understand half of Lain yet.

Don't worry.... I don't get the Lain being paranoid of raio-wave mind control bit either. Maybe its just a ploy to confuse us even more, or look into this way too deeply. :p
