Well i got pretty carried in another thread in this forum about manga to anime conversions and well here is what i said.

it seems that in a few cases, something gets "lost" in the manga-anime translation. Why is that?
Hmm... because they try to put about 20(hypoteticaly, i'm not saying there's 20 Love Hina tankoubons) 200 pages books into 26 30 minutes episodes? Example of this would be One Piece episode 1. They changed the whole Lady Arbyda saga to fit it in one episode an slap in Nami at the same time, who should be appearing many episodes later. They also didn't even put the very interesting and IMHO very important, beggining of the manga, where they start off Luffy as a kid and show his determination on acheiving his dream of being like his idol Shanks.
And hum because its not the 'original' and there's more people on the anime team so they might modify it more to their own desire, for marketing or whatnot(see what they did to DBZ manga conversion? as much as i hate DBZ, i'll take it in example as the worse conversion ever), less conveying the touch of the artist creator.
Also, the simple fact of reading seems to draw you in a lot more and simply sucker you in with the plot, thus making enjoyment a lot better. Anyway like you said they do eleminate lots of stuff when they convert mangas to anime (like one of my fave Houshin Engi character, Roshi, doesn't even appear in the anime ;_; )
There might be a bunch of other reasons i think mangas are better too, but its 4:26am and i just woke up ;_; (well i fell asleep pretty early due to no sleep the night before and two days ago too).
And i also think the drawings are prettier :p
Well, if you feel this is not enough i could elaborate on those points i made earlier and maybe more.

I agree, Mr/Ms Foryth. The anime's character designs, ADORABLE as they are, make all the characters far too childlike. Also, the manga's artwork is far more warm and romantic.
