Well, yes there is love somewhere in there. However, I think it would be the platonice bond between warriors fromed through surviving multiple near death experiences together.
The relationship between Vash and Meryl is one of mutual respect and admiration rather than naive romance.

how about those little signs, like when they were protecting the little forest in disc 5 and meryl said she sent vash back to town and the guys were joking with her and said "boyfriend problems" then meryl made a face and milly was laughing. Reminds me a lot of misty and ash from pokemon. Misty claims to be following ash for her bike, meryl claims to be following vash to do her job. hahaha ash/vash hahahaa.

Never include a pokemon reference in this forum ever again!

Tricky question. But then, love is a tricky emotion. I would say yes, but I don't think it's mutual. There are different kinds of love, I should point out. I think she comess to love him by watching waht he does. At first she dismisses him as a goofball, but later she learns why he acts the way he does, and she comes to admire him for his philosophy. She sees the good in him, and she's drawn to it. So yes, I say she loves him, but it's like the love you might feel for an actor on TV. Because she doesn't really know him. Vash on the other hand... He cares about everybody, it seems, but he doesn't really love them.

Actually, Vash has a love and reverence for all life that may well rival that of another reformed mass murderer, Himura Kenshin.

Also, don't forget that both men are frighteningly intelligent yet hopelessly dopey in normal and happy enviroments.

do kenshin and vash have the same ideas about killing people? wasn't kenshin still willing to kill someone, even though it would be for a "good cause"?

True, Vash's commitment to life is stauncher than that of the Hitokiri Battousai's, so much that he does not even allow the slaying of a town wrecking Giant Sandworm, a lifeform that is FAR below a human being.
I have to agree with Dryden-san, I think its obvious that Meryl loves Vash. The thing is though, Vash never showed any special feelings towards Meryl. The only person Vash really loved was Rem.

didn't he only look upon her as kind of a mother figure? i didn't think i he romantically loved her...

I don't know about intelligent, but they are frighteningly good at what they do.

ok i have just seen the last tape of trigun, first i must say it kicked arse, but as to them loveing eachy other well i know the anwser but you will just have to wait(if you have't already seen it)
before i saw this i thought Meryl loved vash but i had no idea how Vash felt but now i know
and as for kenshin and vash, they are the same except if you really look at vash and knives and combine them with like 75% of vash and 25% of knives you have kenshin
Kenshin would beat vash for the simple fact that i think he is faster

Vash really did love Rem, but people who think love has to be romantic disturb me. Don't automatically think that if you see the woud "love" it has to be romantic... and I DO think Vash loved everyone, or he at least wanted to love parts of everyone. "Love and peace!!" ??

Vash, much like Magneto (of the "Ultimate" X-Men Universe), is enlightened by the perspective of his "homo superior" (or similar species) status, and hence loves ALL life.
Regrettably, also like the Jewish mutant, he is a man tragaically forced to utilise violence to preserve his impossibly idealistic dreams.

While that may be true, Vash does not actually kill anyone. Whereass Magneto does kill. Magneto is willingly fighting using violent methods to meet his end goals (peace for human and mutant kind), whereas Vash is trying to find peace through non-violent methods.
Basically I'm saying that comparing Vash and Magneto (ultimat? eh i'll just alternate universe) is an ok comparison at best, but has its own faults. :| :confused2
