...And wow, am I impressed! How did you feel when you first saw Lain? I can tell you I was tossing and turning that night, trying to understand everything! I think I have a pretty good grip on it, but I'm going to buy the rest of the DVD's as soon as possible! From the art, the subtle design, the pacing, the acid trip backgrounds, this is really my kind of anime! Lain is certainly one of the most mysterious and compelling characters I have had the pleasure to have met.

:D
Welcome to Lain. If you like what you've seen so far, you'll enjoy the sh*t out of the next eps. The art and animation are constantly excellent throughout the whole series, and the plot just gets better and better.

The subtleties are important in this anime, I feel. Get the rest and come back to us! And don't read any other threads...this is an anime that is easily spoiled!

Thanks for the tip! I have only looked in one or two topics here, and I haven't gotten a spoiler yet, so I'll quit poking around here while I'm ahead! I'll be back! :D

When I first saw Lain, I had just finished NGE, so it's pretty obvious that my mind wasn't completely ready for something else that, well, made you think. So I ended up sort of burnt out in frony of the tv. Also, I had seen it with the only knowledge of it being that it won some film festival. But, I got addicted, and finished it up in about two weeks.

To be honest, I've only seen the first 4 eps on VHS ( I bought the Lunchobx right afterwards...:heh: ); but I did not notice any differences between those eps.

The only difference between the VHS and DVD versions that Ive noticed is image and sound quality.

I just finished watching the second Lain DVD yesterday. I love this series. The way that the information is presented in such a cryptic way really reminds me of Evangelion even though the shows are totally different. I've kinda been avoiding this forum for fear of spoilers.... but you'll see alot more of me once I finish the series. :D

I've also started watching Lain and it's a great anime. And it's actually deeper and more obscure than Evangelion! At least that's my opinion

i have the whole sereis now,but only watched till episode 4.

yes it is much deeper than evangelion.

wat i dont like about it is that the story is going at too and only last 13 episodes.

maybe i have to finish watching to have a better impression.

Yes! Definitely finish it. Even though it is only 13 episodes long it leaves you rather full. Personallly i don't think it would have been as fullfilling if it were longer. Hmmmmmm :confused2

This series is an example of the whole being so much more impressive than the parts. It benefits from multiple viewings (and that increases it's value) and multiple interpretations. If you think the presentation is odd now, wait until you get the to 3rd and 4th volumes. :D

Lain is very deep, up to the point where it becomes almost incomprehensible (at least to me), though maybe never as crazy as the first episode is. But it definitely needs to be seen from beginning to end in order to be properly appreciated. There's just too much going on that remains unresolved otherwise, and once you start reading the writings of people who really look deeply into it, Lain becomes even more fascinating. I still think it should have been made to be more accessable to normal human beings, but watching anime on acid (how better to describe Lain  ) is still a pretty cool experience.

i just got my first tape of lain the other day and last night i popped it into the vcr and watched 2 of the episodes before realizing that i got sent the wrong tape!! so i've watched ep's 8 and 9 already and i'll have to reorder the first tape . . . i hope i haven't spoiled too much for myself!
on the bright side (there's always one of those right?) i really like the series and can't wait to get the real first tape! it totally gave me the chills and i know i'm gonna enjoy the rest of it. :)

Well! I finished the series a mere 15 minutes ago! It's been a little while since I started this topic to the time I finished, but now, it's done with!

This series was really something! I’m sorry I didn't get into it earlier! To all others who are only partially through the series, I have a feeling in the next few years we will see many series influenced by Lain’s style and cerebral nature, “Boogiebop Phantom” being only the first post-Lain late night weird-athon, with hope of more to come! You had better finish it, because this is certainly one of the anime series that I see guiding the future!

I have questions of course, but I'll browse the forum first before I ask. ;)
