I have just finished watching the entire series tonight and at this point in time i think it even surpasses NGE.

Well not much to say right now, i guess i will rewatch the whole thing tomorow if i can.

Hmm, interresting, my local anime store just got those in last week. At first I wasn't interrested, but better than NGE... :smash: we'll just have to see! :B:

Yes it is very refreshing to see something like this.

Though i guess it is another story of another failed '3rd impact' hehe, but Lain does it much better than Shinji, and in the cutest pair of bear pygamers too.

Yes the first ep is very good, and it gets even better.

ep 5 i found to even be a bit creepy, which was exellent, and i think ep 10 was done sooo well. (talk of conspiricies ect...)

The thing that i find bizaar though are the 'previews' for the next Layer. Odd indeed.

whoa, don't get me wrong , I adore SEL, but it is definetly not better than eva. close, but not better. although I like how it actually does tie up all the loose ends at the end, unlike eva, which makes you tie 'em up yourself.

yeah those "previews" are strange. oh well, you know those wacky japanese!

yes... i LOVE LAIN {the series, that is}...

unfortunately, i still have yet to buy it all, but it is definately my absolute second favourite anime... EVA is first, of course. i wouldn't say that it's better, but i can see why one would think so! i LOVE IT! in fact, when i go home tomorrow, i'm gonna' watch the tapes that i have of it right away! bye.

Well i have been discussing this elsewhere, but it has been suggested that the life we see of Lain is not the eral world at all, and that it all happens within the Wired.

im yet to hear a response as to why this is suggested but im wondering if anyone thought this, or thinks this.

For me the life she lives within the family is within the real world as we know it.

Yes, those pj's seem to be symbolic of something, for near the end...

i wont spoil it yet

from memory, eps 5 and 10 really stand out for me.

Well in the final episode she is sitting with her 'father' discussing stuff, and he tells her that there is no need for her to wear them anymore (her bear pj's)

yes watch the series, im waiting for people to have seen it and talk about it.

i do not want to give spoilers away for those who have yet to see it

I hadn't heard anything about lain untill I read this thread.

I was just wondering if you could tell me a bit more about it? Not plot twists and stuff but basic first ep story ect

Ok, first ep.

It all starts with a young girl who throws herself off of building, and dies.

A week later girls from her school recieve email from her saying that she has simply left her body and has found god within the Wired.

Not too long after this another girl from the same school throws herself infront of a moving train.

Lain, the main character, has no friends and after recieving the email, she asks her father to buy her a new NAVI in order to get more email ect.... as she now has found a friend (the girl who killed herself the first time).

The story gets better and better with each episode

[b]it's a psychological journey into the idealism of questioning reality... however, most of the originality lies within the fact that it questions reality and the technology of today, what the two connections are, etc, etc... it's definitely the most original story i've yet to see. amazing theories, a plot you never imagined, the wired, "reality," questions, turning, twisting, confusing... and of course, no one can forget the bear pjs!

but yes... definitely worth your time.
