View Full Version : OVA or TV?
No spoilers, please! :(
I must say that ever since I first read about Fushigi Yugi I was intreagued. I've known about the TV series for a while (all $400 of it! Sheesh!), but I just found out about the OVAs.
For most series the OVA should be watched first. Does that hold true for this series?
If the quality is about the same, then I'd rather spend $100 on the OVA and not bother with the $200 box sets unless I decide I REALLY like it and that I want to save for months to get them. :D
thanks,

Unless you want to be terribly confwuzzled, watch the tv series first. The OAV's are kinda... Erm... Interesting. The second is ok, but the first.... One must wonder what the hell kind of crack they were smoking....

The OVAs are the continuation of the TV series...

TV first. Ovas Second but not necessary. I think they ended the series fine in the TV series. I'll hold back my comments about the OVAs for someone else to comment on.

Definitely TV before OVAs. Not only does the OVA storyline take place after the TV storyline, and relies on a lot of history from the TV eps, they're also really quite crap ^^; The TV is much better, my impression is that the storyline only continued after the TV because Watase Yuu wanted to milk more money out of the series ^^;

Yuu Watase-sama didn't have much of a say in the OVA...in fact, I don't think they even let her WRITE them...she wasn't milking the series. T.T
Um, yes, TV series before the OVA...and well, the first OVA was induced by recreational drugs. You just KNOW it was. Not the powerful s**t that Ikuhara-sama was on with the Utena movie, but it was definitely crack-headed, anyway...

The second OVA covers the second story arc in the manga. The TV series covers the first story arc. The first OVA should not have been written/animated/created and has no manga basis.
The order in which they should be watched is as follows:
TV series - excellent, 52 episodes long.
second OVA - finishes the story.
first OVA - technically you should watch this *before* the second OVA, but it's confusing and evil and wrong. About the only redeeming value in it are the bus trips but I don't know if they carried that over or not....
Well, doesn't look like I said anything new here, so I'll be quiet now. ::grins::
