They must have recieved or heard criticism of it. So quit flaming them, SBS rule. Its not their fault some of the dub voiced are crap, they didnt make the show.

The episode was good.

ONCE AGAIN, though....I'd like to ask if you've read SBS's reason for not providing the subtitled version.

Yeah but it is SBS fault that they couldn't bother paying just a little bit more to play it in SUB

Though far from perfect, marginal improvement in presentation is better than no improvement whatsoever.

Perhaps we fellow animeboarders are not the only one mad about the intrusive voiceover after all...

Yeah, it was better this time around.
I think all of these formalities will become irrelevant when we see some more action in future episodes, I'm getting over it anyway.

nope, do you have a link or something?

The reason they gave was a bit flimsey, however I do think there is a bit of validity to it, if you look at it closely. Many members of the general public might prefer dubbed. Lots of people I know dislike reading subtitles. SBS isn't a hardcore anime ( i know theres a word for that, and ive forgotten what it is) TV station. Its a TV station that broadcasts to a very wide range of people. My theory is that they realise the majority of this stuff is being screened to the general public, and perhaps they think the general public would prefer dubbed anime. Maybe they've conducted surveys, maybe they know more than we do about what the majority of the people who watch their station want.

As for myself, I don't consider me a really hardcore anime fan, nor do i consider myself the general public. And it personally doesnt bother me whether its dubbed or subbed. I enjoy either.

I can see where you guys are coming from though. Yeah, it is crap for you that they didn't show the subbed version. But then again if they showed it subbed they'd probably get people from the general public complaining they don't like watching fast paced anime with sub titles. You can't keep everyone happy.

They do show lots of other subbed stuff, yes, but maybe how do we know its even available in a dubbed version?

Anyway, my point is yes, it sucks for you that they dont show subbed versions, but for now you'll have to put up with it and apprieciate the fact SBS are playing any anime at all. Maybe if you send a big enough response they might show subbed anime in the future.

Fireyskull: I didnt see your post. Is it in this forum? I don't visit many other forums on a daily basis regularly besides this and the video games one. And whos CA?

Just one niggling point....

Don't you think that if they did conduct surveys, etc...that they would've stated that as their reason on Hotline, instead of giving this half-arsed ---- about us lacking coordination?

Maybe SBS assumes, that Anime fans, like Star Trek fans, are an obsessed subcluture. From the FEW anime that they have actually bothered to look at, they automatically surmise that all who are obsessed with anime are misogynistic, masturbation obsessed, sexually frustrated virgin peadophiles in their 30's.

From what they have seen in the FEW obsessed Star Trek fans that they have came in contact with, they surmise that obsessive behavior can cause damage to the brain.

And hence they AUTOMATICALLY ASSUME THAT THE LOCOMOTIVE AND REFLEXIVE LOBES OF OUR BRAINS ARE DAMAGED AS WELL!!

Oh, such foolish knaves they are.

I agree that's a pretty lame excuse...what SBS should have just come out and said is the simple fact that dubs do better than subs. You don't need to conduct surveys...it's a fact. Companies sell way more dubbed videos. Sure, WE might prefer a sub to a dub, but we are way in the minority, no matter what you might think.

Your average joe would rather listen than have to read and THAT'S the audience that SBS wants, because ratings and advertising dollars are built on getting the largest audience possible, not pleasing a small but vocal section of the community. You can say something like "all anime is being marketed like pokemon" but that's life...any tv station would be more than happy to get the ratings that pokemon does, so they have got to aim for that market.

Bottom line is, you can vent your rage here, or at SBS, but don't expect that SBS will change what they're currently doing with BGC 2040. I really do recommend the BGC dvds if you prefer to watch the subbed version, they're quite nice. Me, I watch The Bill at 8:30pm on a Saturday night ^^;;

Very well said.

And I don't even have a TV, let alone a VCR or DVD player, so its definately a great treat to see BGC each week, even if it is subbed and on a crappy staticy common room tv.

If it really bothers you that much, just tell yourself its refering to the next episode's preview. Which I actually thought it was to begin with.

If that fails, just close your eyes ^_^

Well di you hear on the end of episode 1??

'Umm....... Manga heroes will be back 8:30 next Saturday' or some such.

But having a presenter 'umm'-ing is just not on, but I'm not complaining :)
