just wonderin that so far we kinda know the naru aint his lost love from the manga and the show, and since in the show they both got accepted in the spring special, doesnt it make you wonder what will the outcome will be? this leaves a nice ordeal for the creator to make up a plot. well im not sure if its already in the manga, this plot, but who knows :D

It already is explained in the manga in vol 10. Keitaro's lost love is Mutsumi, but she doesn't want to have relations with him for a reason.

Didn't she say in volume 8 that she had promised with a girl?

And in the anime you see Mutsumi giving her Liddo-kun to Narusegawa with Keitaro and the girl behind them

Aack, if Mutsumi is revealed to be the girl of the promise in the manga, than my whole theory is totally messed up..........see, my theory on the girl of the promise was that she was an amalgamation of Naru, Mutsumi, and Moe-chan (the doll.) No wait, it's not stupid!

The girl of the promise is seen wearing a dress that we later see the young Mitsune wearing, and her hair and features seem to be a mixture of little Naru and the doll Moe-chan. Because he's so young, Keitaro amalgamates the three of them into one girl in his memory. Not only does that explain the prescence of Moe-chan in the series (she was this one incongrous element that seemed to be hinting something that was picking at my brain after I saw that episode), but it explains Mutsumi's answer in ep. 24 when Naru asks who the girl of the promise is:

"There are a lot of them."

This probably seems kind of farfetched, but I like to think of the girl of the promise as this kind of imaginary figure that mainly exists in Keitaro's mind-and is of course mirrored in those around him. Having that image of her kind of kept him stuck in a dream world, drifting through life, since because in the back of his mind he knew she wasn't real, he would never go that extra mile to get into Tokyo U as he did with Naru.

Besides, isn't' that just cooler than having it be Mutsumi? I like things better when they're mysterious:).

I agree with Yui_Reborn here. The mysterious element would be much better then having a simple fact of Mitsumi being "it".... That was also a rather interesting theory and personally i think it actually makes sense. :D

Okay... I just re-read chapter 83 and it seems some of the clues dealing with this promised girl become invalid in the chapters before this one. In chapter 83, Naru has a flashback where young Keitaro 'suggested' that they go to Tokyo U together. In the last page of the chapter, Naru was about to say to Keitaro she, herself, may be his promised girl.

Forget what I said about Mutsumi being the promised girl. I may have misinterpreted the dialogue. And all of these clues are obscure. There's some other interesting dialogue in this chapter also.

I don't really care who this 'promised girl' is because later in the story, Kanako arrives and starts having fights with Naru. Keitaro made a promise with this Kanako as well so we know he made at least 2 promises.

Um... you know what scared the ---- outta me was seeing shots from the dreamcast game... the new one ... the mana-east-type girl in it looks the most like the girl from his past out of all of them.. and yes... i hate her.

no no no, the whole thing is explained in the manga, the girl whose image Keitaro remembers is Mutsumi, but she isn't the one to whom he maid the promise. All three were at Hinata Inn at the same time fifteen years ago, and they knew each other. Mutsumi knew Keitaro liked Naru who was around two years old. She encouraged Keitaro to make the promise with Naru and sent Liddo Kun with him for moral support. Keitaro makes the promise with Naru, then later on Mutsumi makes the same promise with Naru to get into Toudai because Naru was too young to clearly remember the promise when she made it with Keitaro. The anime version treats it a little differently where Naru and Keitaro were in the same playground behind Hinata Inn but Mutsumi is less involved in it. Mutsumi only hears someone making a promise with Keitaro but doesn't know exactly who it was. And Naru was there at the playground with Mutsumi and Keitaro but it isn't certain if the promise was made with her. The thing that doesn't make clear sense in the anime version is that if Mutsumi didn't send Liddo Kun with Keitaro to to Naru, how did Naru end up with Mutsumi's Liddo Kun. They seem to have been close and possibly played together at that time, because of the way they were able to remember the Liddo Kun song and the way they sang it as if they had done it together before when they meet at the potato soup gathering. This could mean that in the anime version all three were close friends and the promise could have been made to either one except no one remembers clearly, but most likely it was made to Naru and she got the Liddo Kun either through Keitaro similar to the way it happened in the manga version or Mutsumi could have given it to her at another time.

I've seen the anime version (I want the mangas!!!) And in the anime..... Naru found and old photo of Keitaro and Mutsumi and she start thinking that Mutsumi is Keitaro's promised girl but later Mutsumi admit that she heard this of someone when she was young and said to Naru that she nerver did a promise to someone when she was a child but she act like because she loves Keitaro .... And Naru find out a little before that her Liddo Kun was a gift from Mutsumi when she was a little girl and she understand that maybe and probably she was the Keitaro promise's girl but she was too young to remember...

an other hint are the hair of the little girl they got a Naru style ...

Thats usually the case between any anime and manga.... there are always differences between the anime and manga.... even karekano (which was almost dead on to the manga) had a slight variation from the manga (they left out a couple scenes from the manga).

There is definite differences between the Love Hina Manga and Anime.... (due to spoilers i won't say anything) :D

yeah there is alot of differences from the manga and the anime, well one ( spoiler comin) is the christmas special from the show and the manga are some what different. in the anime she admits she loves him, but in the manga he has to choose who he loves the most naru or mutsumi. either im wrong :heh: because i sorta forgot the christmas special, but idid read the manga yesterday. well its like that, how the anime version is different from the manga. also like the one when suu would turn into a different woman when the red moon was up, in the manga it was just a small thing, for the anime they made one whole episode and even added her sister in it while in the manga she knew that the red moon changed her. also for the lost love in the manga didnt it mention that mutsumi was just renewing the promise and so thats why keitaro thought it was her, but in a flash back she pushed him to go talk to naru cause he liked her.
