AKIRA
I wanted to hear what all of you people thought about the movie Akira. There is just so many mysterious things that happen in this movie and, I just wanted to know what all you people, that have seen it, thought about it.
I really liked it. Well not the first time (I was 10) but now that i'm much older its a great piece of Anime, I especially like the way that Tetsuo became so warped.

It is still the best anime Movie I have ever seen, can't wait till the Akira DVD special edition comes out. This movie is way ahead of its time and has easily the best background sound ever. Like Ura I watched it at a very young, so I actually learn to appreciate the story at my second and third time that I saw it.

Akira can be compared to evangelion because it shows man trying to achieve the status of god and this brings severe concecuences for all people.
It is an excedengly good Anime and the plot and animation keep u watching cause u dont wanna miss any part of the film.

well, like almost everyone else I saw the movie when I was little (like maybe 8) and it was the first anime I ever saw so it's become my personal fav. i've seen it like maybe 15 times by now. I guess it's a lot but, why not?
Well, i watched it so many times i can't count, so i guess i do like it a lot. :heh: There always seem to be some new small details to notice at nearly every viewing, though i'm now wondering if my eyes plays me tricks. :heh: One of my favorite movies, i'll be trying to get my hands on the manga once i got money free, because it is supposed to be much more complete than the movie.

The manga has a lot more details, it really explains things that you would have a feeling that is not there in the movie, like it has been cut out or left out because there is no more room for it. I have only glance through the first volume, there are four volume, I still haven't got around buying one yet.

I believe it was the foundation to Anime in the United States. It was actually shown in a few theaters. Some will argue that its' predessesors like Robotech and/or Voltron, for example, were what brought the passion of Anime around the world. Many of us grew up on it as kids and most of us didn't know that it was imported and dubbed over. Another Anime was Speed Racer. We didn't car where it came from because it was just kick butt to watch.
Transformers was a joint venture believe it or not. Episodes were created in Japan and the U.S. Myself and my little bro still have two toys brought over from Japan. Look at me I'm rambling. Anyway...
Akira was one of the very few animated features with a targeted audience for adults and it clearly portrayed that animated works weren't just for kids.
Great storyline and action. It had great character development from the beginning. One thing you have to do is watch it more than once in order to get everything you missed before. The original dubbing was very good quality imo and would buy it again for it, but the one thing that you must remember is that when dubbing occurs some plotlines disappear. Minor some of the time, they aren't crucial pieces, but a lot of us want the whole picture.
Books to movies as to Manga to movies are gonna be the same. The book or Manga is almost always gonna be better than the movie or Anime, hands down.
Ok, I'm done. :o

The absolute best anime movie of all time. It is perfect in every aspect.
Akira was absolutely stunning when I first watched it in the cinemas back in '91 (I was 13 I think) and I didn't quite understand the plot completely but I knew some of it. But alot of it went over my head (like the goings on with the council commitee and the ending among other things).
I'm one of those people who have seen it so many times that I know the english script inside out which was interesting because when I saw the english sub, it was like a completely different script (with the same plot, just completely different dialogue).
The thing which got me the most was the attention to detail put into everything.
Ah well, long live Akira ^_^ !

By the way for those in Sydney (Australia, not Nova Scotia!), the Silicon Pulp gallery on Paramatta Road in Stanmore (just near the McDonalds) has an exhibition going until August called "AKIRA! AKIRA! AKIRA!". Sounds cool - I think I'll go next Saturday (they don't open Sunday!)

Well, I like the responses I'm gettin out of you guys*
I agree, that the manga is much more in depth and detailed, and I have read that many times, almost as many times as I've seen the movie, which I watched again yesterday after finishing Gasaraki 3. Keep it up guys*, I like hearing your thoughts.
*(or gals) for those who care
Though it is a styunning movie i would not call it the best anime ive seen. But i do still love it just not as much as some other animes ive seen. BUt i'll say this

Just out curiosity, why didn't they actually try to make an actual bike like kaneda's? All I see over here are old motorbikes and scooters.
Actually there have been a few replicues made in the states. I'll try to find the links but i think the sight shut down.
Also is you want to be realy honest its more of a moped that a bike ... :(

I saw the new version of Akira at the movies and DAMN its a WHOLE NEW experience...the voices/art/story is like ENTIRELY redun...there are at LEAST 30 more minutes of footage in it. Which explains EVERYTHING that the original didnt...if you liked the original the new one is TEN MILLION times better....A MUST see for every anime fan.

It is an okay Anime movie. To me though, I think it is overated. I mean it was great back in the day. (1987)? But I feel that it left too much to be desired. It had no clear ending! That made me feel kind of mad. But overall, I pretty much enjoyed the whole aspect of it. I just feel that there is some anime movies better like Perfect Blue or Ninja Scroll for instance. Anyway, That is my two cents!:D
