Oscar-nominated production designer Bo Welch has signed to co-direct "Parasyte," a twisted buddy comedy based on a Japanese comic, reports Variety.

In the film, Aliens invade the earth in the form of seeds. When they land on any living creature, it becomes an alien. When the picture's hero manages to confine the alien transformation process to just his left hand, he and his alien hand unite in a battle to save the world from alien invasion.

Good God......If this movie makes money, who can say how many more anime and manga series will get the Hollywood 'treatment'?

I tremble at the thought.

They already have, Lion King and Atlantis. At least that's Disney's copies.

Fist of the North Star, anyone? Two points: first, I really doubt this will make money. Second, it's not as though they ever made an anime out of 'Parasyte.' Look at it this way: they're going to compress a manga series into a movie, so it would lose a lot of detail whether it was anime or live-action. The one advantage anime gives is that it would probably have better (voice) acting than a live action Hollywood movie. I've read the comic, and the phrase 'twisted buddy comedy' is actually pretty accurate. What I want to know is, will it still be set in Japan?

Of course, there's always the problem of the 'slippery slope effect...' Five words: "Cardcaptors, the live action movie."
