Well, like a lot of anime, it was kind of short, but I thought it was pretty good, especially considering I can see it for free since in comes on Showtime B all the time.

Showtime Beyond is another showtime channel that shows quite a bit of anime compared to most other networks. I get it on digital cable. They show anime pretty often. Heck, Ghost in the Shell came on this morning, they show the whole fist of the north star series, appleseed of course, the 4 part macross plus series has been coming on all this week, Ninja Scroll is coming on Friday,.. to sum it up, they I applaud them unlike most other networks that like to show a lot of crap.

Appleseed had a reasonable plot (OK not too devious, but a little romantic and idealist - similar to Patlabor movie 2 but less heavy). The two protagonists are kinda cool and humorous together without being all icky (I think they're a bit closer in the manga and series). The action was kinda fun and not too gruesome (mostly!!!).

I think it was overall the good-hearted fight for Troof, Justice and the... err... Olympian way that was kinda fun. If you watch too much Oshii you get all depressed. Sometimes anime isn't all gloom and doom.

The Appleseed anime movie sucks..., I detest it! The reason I hate it so much is that I'm a huge fan of the original manga..., Shirow is a god!! Compared to the original manga, the anime is really lame...,

And there's a series? Anybody got any info on that? :D

Err... I think I accidentally mentioned a series... I think I meant the "manga series"... :heh: At least the OAV story is nice and coherent and doesn't try to cram everything in.

Shirow's artwork is sometimes too cheesy for me, so I've never chased the manga...

I thought that for the animation itself was definitily worth the watch, but it was too short ,oh well what can you do...

Beno

So the Manga is really good?

The manga is amazing..., I love it!! The artwork is beautiful in my opinion *glares at mrgazpacho* & story is very complex, so complex that Shirow's puts footnotes for the reader everywhere..., :heh:

The anime itself is based loosely on the events in the second volume of the manga..., but the atmosphere in the books is a lot darker than the atmosphere portrayed in the anime..., I dunno, the animation & the colour scheme seemed too bright & cheerful, compared to the vision I had in my mind..., that's why I don't like the anime..., that and the main characters were weak when compared to the manga ones...,

I know what you mean - that's exactly why I liked the OAV! (I'f you liked the "Alien" movies but didn't really like HR Giger's poster artwork, you'll know what I mean...) I suppose I've just got "pop" taste and like these bright things... Also maybe I've got a short attention span... :heh:

I loved both! What can i say? Sure the movie isent as good as the manga (How could it be?!) But it was still a good anime. By the way where does the Movie fit in I think its just infont of book 3 but it might be book 2. Darm i have to read it again!

And you need them, too!

Yeah, when Deunan runs off that group of cops in the anime, you get the feeling that they're just laughing at her. If it were the manga Deunan, you'd know they were actually running for their lives! :D

I think the OAV would have been better if they had done the Artemis story arc instead of the gun platforms. There were too many behind-the-scenes power plays going on during the gun platform arc for it to be done well in one OAV. The whole Gaia vs the Bioroids thing wouldn't fit into their timeframe.

The Artemis arc, though, was much more straight forward and deeper emotionally. The whole "what does it mean to be a bioroid" thing was more accessible when presented in the Artemis story.
