a girl named chisa commits suicide. the next day some of her classmates recieve emails from her. lain is the only one who doesn't think it is a sick joke...so this leads her to "question life and reality".

thats just an extremely basic run-down

So you like it?
How many episodes does it have?

I'm thinking of buying it. I'll probably end up just getting a wallscroll of Lain :heh:

Don't know how many eps though

Do NOT read any threads in this forum if you want to see Lain. Just about everything is a spoiler. And yes, another 13 eps and I'd be bleeding out of my ears. :) It's that good.

Lain's an extremely good and addictive series, but so ridiculously trippy that anyone who's not willing to think about their anime will definitely hate it. It's sort of like watching normal anime on acid (actually, that's the only way I can think of describing the animation). If you can't live without a lot of action, I wouldn't recommend it, but if you want a mature and ridiculously deep (and confusing) anime, try out the first DVD. If that's too crazy for you, don't even think about getting into the rest of it.

And I definitely agree with Drizzten; it's my philosophy that so long as I'm watching an anime, I don't post in its forum until I've finished it.

Keep in mind this is a different kind of crazy. It isn't like it's a superhyper mindf*ck...the mood of the show and the subjects covered will either bore you or deeply arouse your interests. It isn't Evangelion crazy...it's X-Files crazy. Ga, it's hard to define Lain. One reason why I like it. ;)

It definitely takes a grade “A” mind to completely "get" Lain, but you can enjoy it on any level as long as you:

A. Go into the anime with NO expectations. You can't predict what Lain will be like for you until you SEE some.

B. Go into the anime with NO biases. Like what was already said here, if you need action or humor, you should hold off and not buy it, because you will be instantly and violently thrust into an anime that is art for arts sake. Eva has things to buffer the viewer from the void. Lain has no such buffer, you just get dropped in.

Also, it's not for most cyberpunk fans... "Akira" and "Ghost in the Shell" are cyberpunk. Lain just... err... Lain is Lain! :D

OK, got it? Now buy it!

Lain is Lain....

there is no other way to understand it.
