So, I have a question about the ending. *SPOILERS*

Ok. So did Keitaro ever find the girl he promised? The subtitles on my VCD suck on a few episodes, including the last one, and some of them get cut off at the bottom of the screen. From what I gather, she says she just heard him say that he promised to meet his childhood crush in Tokyo U, and she earlier said to Shinobu something about trying to steal him away. So from what I see, he never found that girl from the past. Whoever it was. Am I right?

according to what i read in the manga ..... he did found her ..... but the situation was more complex then that ...cause apperantly there were 2 girls .... and he meets both of them ...but in the end he doesn't really care ...cause there's one girl he loves ..... any guesses huh??

Are you watching these VCD's on your TV, because a PAL encoded video may be cut off at the top and the bottom when played on a NTSB TV. You can play VCD's on Windows Media Player, you need choose open, to go to the folder on the VCD that's named Mpegav and select the option to display all files in that folder. There should be one or more files there with a .dat extension. Select one of the files and open it. It will be one of the episodes. Media Player will play the file at the correct resolution. Returning to the topic the anime version doesn't make it all that clear but makes it very likely that it was Naru because of the evidence that Naru, Keitaro, and Mutsumi were at Hinata Sou at the same time. And the fact that Mutsumi states that she just heard someone making that promise, leaving basically Naru and Keitaro to have made the promise. Also, Naru's diary did contain the words "promise of 15 years ago"(not in english) eluding to the fact that she's really the one who made the promise. It's made a lot clearer in the manga. It's basically stated that Mutsumi encouraged Keitaro to make the promise with Naru, who was only two years old and didn't really remember it that well so Mutsumi had to make the promise with her again later to go to TouDai together. According to Naru's memory from the time, Naru and Mutsumi were competing for Keitaro and Naru had won him in a contest of rock-paper-scissors.

well i do recall reading that mutsumi lost on purpose .....after all remember .naru only knows how to make sciessors

but as i said it didn't matter for keitaro anymore ,cause he's inlove in naru ...though she is the girl from the promise

The anime leads you to believe that Naru is the chosen one.

The manga points out that it was Mutsumi who was the promised one.

Does it really matter though? IMHO he could be a dog (as if he weren't one already :lol: ) and try to have both of them! hehehe :lol:

actually ,in the manga when you see the flashback bits ,you see all 3 play together... and in one of the volumes mutsumi says that "she made a promise for that girl ,cause she was too young too remember"

no ...i haven't ...only up to volume 10 .... but still both girls were there .... maybe i had the wrong impression from all the volumes till now.

but isn't keitaro said that it doesn't matter who's the girl from the promise cause he loves naru?

Notice how there are usually these discrepancies between the comic and animation. There are only about 27-28 episodes while the comic version is up to chapter 109. One of them has to be more canonical and that would have to be the comic version. Some of the plots in the animation probably weren't even written by Akamatsu himself so how can anyone accept them as truth?
