Okay gang here we go. Start posting theories. What was "The Event"? What really happened to everyone 40 years ago. As promised and with some egging on I'm going to post my theory. But it's coming in fanfiction form (it's only 4 chapters). Anyways, here's the link: http://www.fanfiction.net/index.fic?action=story-read&storyid=295111 and I promise this isn't just a lame plug to get people to read my fic. :p It's my valid theory and I really don't feel like retyping the whole thing in non fanfic form.

So come on guys...out with it. What do YOU think happened to Paradigm? :D

i think a matrix thing was going on.... something took over the planet, melted the polar ice caps (possibly to hide what the cities used to be like, or to hide something important to them), erased everyone's memories, stole some knowledge (possibly left some behind) and exit stage left, the entities were gone.... everyone was clueless what to do, they remembered certain things like how to speak, their names and familys, their special skills (construction, machinery, technology etc.) and they rebuilt what they could and continued life as if nothing happened, nobody wanted to know what happened in the past and endured the future.... there may be some type of alien technology implanted within the earth, when rodger was climbing down the ladder he felt great fear and fell off the ladder... maybe his presence triggered something in his head that caused him to do that..... but anyhoo, as we can see, the alien technology that erased many people's memories didn't work on everyone, some people regained their total memory, some people started to remember things that they never knew before, it might be biological malfunctions or a rejection of some sort.... i also think that something is working within paradigm..... maybe the entities have conrtol over some people, especially the officials like that dude in the white suit.... well i have much much more to say, but i'll continue after i've finished watching "The Saint", l8er!!

Personally, think that WWIII happened. Part of the reason that I think that is because of how everyone keeps saying that the sun will never rise on Paradigm. Also because of the fact that they have domes that only the rich can afford to live in, and that is the only way you can have sunlight. Just that alone sounds like a Nuclear winter happened. I am guessing that the radiation is what caused everyone to loose their memory in Paradigm. Well that is what I believe. Of course I would be wrong.

I've heard an interesting theory that the entire town is actually a whole experiment. The reason why nobody has any memories before 40 years ago was because they weren't alive 40 years ago. It was a huge project by Gordon Rosewater to have an 'artificial' civilization. Just a thought, something interesting I heard, and no its not my theory.

Interesting theory Sheex..have you ever read Gravity's Rainbow? Sort of a similar scenario there...it's a hellaciously rough read though.
I could see things being an experiment maybe. Actually all of the theories so far are good (I'm gonna cling to my apocalypse one). Now if only they'd hurry up and make more of Big O.
Maybe we should start a pool with our four best theories and when more of the show comes out we can pay off to those that were right. (LOL) Silly things to do while you wait for a show to be finished. :D

My question is, "what year does Big O take place in?". That could kinda help you get an idea of the technology levels and there relation to what happened. If you look at everything, it seems just a little modern with some eccentric stuff thrown in (androids, megadeuses). Another thing, ya know that big cavern that Roger is in in episode 4 "Underground Terror"? Look at it. It seems fairly modern and a large banner in the room with Big Duo reads "Expo '04". Suggesting that the cavern was constructed in 2004. If that was when "The Event" occured, that puts Big O at 2044, which I think makes sense. Something that occured to me when I saw it (oh god, please stop me. I'm about to make a Disney refrence) In Atlantis:The Lost Empire (there I go). Atlantis was sunk by the crystal thing that the Atlantians invented. It saw that the king wanted the use it's power as a weapon of war, and thus sunk the city. Kind of like my theory of Big O. The megadeuses gained sentience and rebeled against the humans' intentions of destuction. Gordon Rosewater proubly didn't want to be blamed and triggered something that caused the megadeuses to shut down and the memories of the citizens lost. Also, I believe that WW3 was happening outside of Paradigm City (which was proubly New York or something). Thus, Rosewater was manufacturing the megadeuses to fight. When they were constructed and realized Rosewater's intentions, they attacked the city, hence all those memories that people keep having with the city being destroyed by the megadeuses. Huff Huff, man that must be the longest post I've ever typed! :smokin:

i have another theory that has a 1/1,000,000,000,000th possibility...... maybe everyone fell over and the same time hiting their heads and experiencing a nationwide amnesia!!!!!!! Bwhahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!

I heard the whole expiriment thingy too and I like that idea. The whole Tomato scene was a good showing towards that. I'm just not exactly sure about the Mega Deus' though...I mean Big Duo acted like it was alive and all the junk. Angel at the end even said it wasn't time yet (I think...been a while sine I saw RD) so I'm pretty content that there's more than meets the eye with the people, but as the Mega Deus' I'm not too sure. I mean think Mega Deus, which we all know means God, and the code Cast in the Name of God Ye Not Guilty. Makes you think about what their purpose really is.

Doesnt that whole "experiment" idea remind you a lot of the movie Dark City....same type of premise. Question: They dont tell you at the end of the series what happened?....

I'd say they more gave you hints...the tomato was a large one. You know? I really really hate cliffhangers.
