In episode 16, or whichever the "Shadow" angel appears (unfortunately, I don't know this one's name for sure...Sachiel???), little Shinji and Shinji have a conversation in which Shinji says he can't swim. Now, near the end of the movie, Shinji is left floating in LCL. AND HE CAN'T SWIM!!! How on Earth does he make it to the beach!!

Like you said, he's just floating. There's a difference between floating and swimming, you know. The waves probably carried him to the shore.

The angel's name is leliel btw (i think). Sachiel is the one in the first two episodes.

After waking up and floating in the LCL sea, I don't think he himself realizes how he gets to the beach. To me, I think the LCL sea is just the organic material that makes up humans, not there actual souls. I think the soul part is the red band that is orbiting the Earth. My reasoning that they are seperate : watch when Keel melts to LCL, his body liquifies but a red bright orb flies UP out of the screen . So Shinji may have just rematerialized on the beach, not actually making any effort himself to get there.

that's interesting.....i'd give it more thought if my brother wasn't about to shove me off the computer...it leads to the conclusion, however, that the smaller amount of LCL we see in OMF means that many humans have made their way back into their original form. good work lordbryn.

I'm not sure that would mean a lot of people have chosen to come back yet. I mean, the LCL sea would have to be proportionally as large as the material as all the humans in the world made up, but the soul could be as small as a marble so that could very well be several billion souls up there. Also would explain why when all the souls were sucked up into Lilith the world was still stained red with LCL. Also, when all of the NERV bridge staff are liquified by the Reis, when Fuyutski looks up at a smiling Yui above him, we see brighty orange globes floating abover her, but all of the staff when turned into LCL, the LCL stays on the floor **unfortunately they change so fast and the camera cuts away so fast we don't get to see their soul, move up, but I just watched it again and that does happen when Keel uh 'melts' :) ** So it looks like we are made up of 2 parts, the LCL **the physical part** and a soul **what makes us ourselves**.

Yes, I realized a little too late yesterday that I rather put words in your mouth-sorry about that. But at any rate, I agree that the red dots are the souls and the LCL is the body...does that have anything to do with the Leliel episode, where Shinji shows his mother a red dot (I believe) that he holds in his hands..."that's good for you" she (and Rei) later say. He lives, at the moment because he has his soul. Correct?

Hmm, never thought of that before. I think the "that's good for you" line said by Rei is a hint that she is somehow related to his mother. The red marble thing is a good point though, I'll have to rewatch that scene **like I wouldn't eventually anyway :)**

Actually, I think the red dot is Yui's soul, his is holding it because she is in the Eva and for the first time has communicated with him. Her soul is what gives Unit O1 the power it needs to escape from the Sea of Dirac.

As for him swimming, there is a brief scene in EoE where you see him emerge next ot Rei's head in the LCL Sea. So he must have swam/walked to the beach. Could it be that because it is LCL he would not drown? After all, he had been breathing that stuff in the Eva for a long time.
