I'm a little confused about something. In episode 15, Kaji refers to Lilith as Adam, many people have told me that this was because Kaji did not know it was Lilith. But wasn't Kaji the one who delivered Adam to Gendou? And Gendou clearly states in front of Kaji that it was Adam (episode . So why would Kaji think Lilith is Adam?

Yes, it would give one the impression that the Angel on the cross was in fact the embryo which Kaji brought to NERV HQ. Which is refered to as Adam, but then on the cross found to be Lilith.
This in turn would mean that SEELE did not have Lilith for very long either, which makes for a very new line of thought about a lot of things.
Well maybe not SEELE but NERV.
But this is a bit hard to believe,
it only makes sense that they managed to get Adam into embryo from, which makes Lilith a mystery
more on this later, it is a very interesting topic

In Episode 7 what Ritsuko tells Shinji about the third impact is only a partial truth. What the children learn in school is totally false. Kaji didn't tell her the truth about Lilith because that was super classified info and to tell her would endanger her life. That is why he was always hesitant or evasive when it came to telling Misato the truth. Remember when they were doin the hippity dippity in ep.20 the part with "you can't dodge my questions by doing that, no don't put strange things in there" So he didn't directly tell her with words but he gave her the info alright. Ordog, here is my take on your question. But, please read my comments about the inner/outer ring within Nerv here as background. The following assumes that this premise is true.
We all know Kaji is a double spy; his main identity is that of a Special Inspection agent for Nerv, but he also works for the Ministry of Interior, as well as for Seele. Thus, he separates the identities for each of these roles, ie., the Kaji of the M.I. must not know what the Kaji of Seele does, and vice versa. In addition, the Kaji of Nerv must not know anything EITHER the Kaji's of Seele OR of the M.I. know.
Thus, when Misato catches Kaji of Nerv red-handed under the role of Kaji of the M.I., Kaji still has to pretend he doesn't know anything that Kaji of Seele knows. He therefore refers to Lilith as Adam, because Kaji of Nerv is within the circle of knowledge that knows about Lilith but still refers to it as Adam AND Misato is in the outer layers of this circle, that only has knowledge about Adam. Kaji doesn't think Lilith is Adam, he knows about both, but he had to feign his knowledge about Lilith in order to maintain the secrecy of his third identity and to least damage the integrity of the circle layers(as in preventing Misato from knowing anything more about Kaji and from knowing about Lilith).

Yet, Kaji showing the LCL plant to Misato is still inconsistent. Kaji was forced to show her Lilith!? Misato ambushes him by the plant to prevent Kaji from snooping around further. She put a gun to his head to stop him from opening the lock. Not in order to force him to open it.

The reason why Kaji told her it was Adam was to protect her and himself. If he had told her it was Lilith then there would be a slew of new questions and, having a gun held to his head he would most likely have to answer. Since she knew about Adam it would of been easier for her to accept now wouldn't it. Also by telling her it was Lilith she could be killed for knowing too much. I don't think that Gendo would have much problem finding a replacement for her. If news of Lilith were to be leaked out then that could jepordize the entire Human Insturmentality Project. They had to make sure that everybody thought it was Adam. Lilith was basically the decoy Adam. Gendo most likely knew that Seele would try to go initiate the impact like they did with Kaworu. Gendo seemed to know about most of if not all of the Angels. That was why they didn't hold Unit-03's activation test in Nerv HQ. Also it is easier for everyone to accept for that to be Adam. The real Adam was top top secret so they needed everyone, especially the people at Nerv to think that Lilith was Adam, that way, if someone from Nerv was kidnapped by Seele and asked where Adam was they would tell them where the decoy was and not the real one. Kaji would of known about this and also told her it was Adam for the protection of humanity. Since he most likely didn't know about the race to the initiate the third impact. He just like everybody else thought that the whole point of all this was to save humanity, not end it. Let's just say that telling you'r employee's that the reason that they do what they do isn't the best thing you can do for employee morale if you know what I'm saying.

Where??
It seems that she may have been in the cavity known as the Geo-front before SEELE began to excavate it. (but then maybe not).
Why they gave it to NERV is simple, NERV was meant to be the instrument through which SEELE set its plans into action. This is said a number of times in the series. It is just that Gendo has his own plans and uses for NERV (and SEELE for that matter). If Gendo had simply followed the wishes of SEELE there would have been no problems.

i said that kaji corrects misato when she assumes it was adam, but that was ritsuko later in the series - sorry!
i assume that kaji himself doesn't know what it was. he is a spy, trying to find things out - that's why he's opening the door, not to just say hello to adam/lillith. he may not have even known if lilith even exists. i reckon he assumed that it was adam, knowing nerv had adam hidden away somewhere. he had only seen adam as a growing embryo, and so may have assumed that it had grown into that. kaji opens the door because he knows it will shock misato and get her to mistrust nerv, and hence not carry out her duties (stopping/killing him!).

Intresting responses, however, I understood that Lilith was captured/discovered by SEELE. So obviosuly they would've known what Lilith was. Reading all the responses I would've have to say I agree with him protecting Misato.

If Gendo had simply followed the wishes of SEELE there would have been no problems.

plus nerv has the ability to fight the angels, which were going to lilith :)
i said that kaji corrects misato when she assumes it was adam, but that was ritsuko later in the series - sorry!
i assume that kaji himself doesn't know what it was. he is a spy, trying to find things out - that's why he's opening the door, not to just say hello to adam/lillith. he may not have even known if lilith even exists. i reckon he assumed that it was adam, knowing nerv had adam hidden away somewhere. he had only seen adam as a growing embryo, and so may have assumed that it had grown into that. kaji opens the door because he knows it will shock misato and get her to mistrust nerv, and hence not carry out her duties (stopping/killing him!).

I agree, since her legs were missing and looked like they were growing back he could of assumed that it was what adam had grown into.

when i first saw lilith i thought it looked more like it had roots (like a plant) than its legs growing back. :) but, it looks to me that lilith has lots of little legs in pairs, like those of a human, hanging out of it. anyone else see what i mean?

I think I know what your refering to but in EVA when ever torn flesh occurs, it normall looks bubblely. Look when Shinji got the 400% sinc ratio and used the angel tissue to make a new arm, the flesh bubbled, several times flesh is shown this way. Including Lilliths legs.

I don't know what you were on when you watched that episode but I want some. I never thought about it. I don't see any relevance that it might have. All flesh regenerates that way in the series. That's just the way that the animators wanted to go about drawing it.
