Ok well its been a while till i last saw one of these threads so here some now.


Whats your fav series or movie in the macross series?

I'd have to go with DYRL. Although it's only a movie and just a summary of the macross saga, I enjoyed it. Anyone know where I can get a DVD of it? I've been trying to find one, but have only found DVDs with only Chinese subtitles.

Anyway......
I would have to go with Do You Remember Love cause I liked the story in that better than MP and the action scenes are still pretty good (of course, nothing close to MP) and MP will always rule in the action department. Robotech?!? GAH!! :D

Oh and about it being out on DVD, I don't know yet as I would also love to get it on that too but being from Australia, I don't think we'll get it anytime soon :(

Like everyone else, I vote Macross Plus. And my favorite plane would be the YF-21.

You guys are a bunch of rookies(newbies?!?), Robotech is and will always be my favorite. Macross plus is nice and looks good but really lacks in story and character development like in Robotech. Do you remember love was good too, but nothing beats the original. I bought the special edition DVD box of Robotech:D.

I love Macross Plus and I think you can guess my fave character from it :D As far as the best Valkyrie, that would be the YF-19. I still like the original Macross series though. I wish I had the $250 to spend on the new boxed set of Macross by AnimEigo. I'll just have to wait for the individual DVD's to be released later this year.

Macross and Robotech are similar, but not the same thing. For example, Scott Bernard is a Robotech character, but he is nowhere to be seen in Macross because he is a character from Genesis Climber Mospeada. Robotech is 3 unrelated series put together somewhat loosely to make an 85 episode series. Overall, Robotech is pretty good, but it has some problems. One of the biggest is the dubbing. The second problem is the entire second series, Robotech Masters, is really incoherrant. It was changed so much that it doesn't always make alot of sense.

Overall, Macross is better than Robotech: The Macross Saga. After episode 24, Robotech:TMS really strays from Macross and is not nearly as good. It has to start setting itself up or the next chapter, Robotech Masters, but it doesn't quite flow. Plus, some good scenes were cut out to make room for the Masters scenes that were added.

Macross also has more songs and they are better than the Robotech ones. We Will Win is my favorite Robotech song. It's good and goes well with the Force of Arms episode, but in the same Macross episode Minmay sang several songs instead of just singing the same one over and over.

I ain't knocking Robotech, but it's not as good.

For one, I thought the dubbing where actually done very well, just listen with your eyes closed if you can't hear it immediatly. You will hear the emotion and conviction put into each and every character by the english VA. They where actually trying to be convincing and that is what lacking in Dubbing today. I actually prefer the english dubbing in Robotech than the japanese, the japanese VA sounds a bit dull and bored.

Sure Macross Plus has better graphics and audio, but would that make it a better anime than Robotech. It just follows the standaard set by Robotech, the original, which was way ahead of its time, with a great story line and great character development. Maybe I am just being nostalgic, I love Robotech when I was a kid and now they released the DVD, my loved for it has rekindled. Robotech has a great emotional value to me, not just the great action, loveable character and a great story line, but also the emotion that where put into it. I wonder if anyone remember when commander Folker died, almost brought a tear to my eyes. Battlescenes between the Meltran pilot(I don't remember her name) and Max Sterling makes the battle scenes in Macross Plus looks like a walk in the park. The looks on the Zentradi when they first saw humans kiss, now that is priceless. I personnaly didn't really care for those songs, I find them rather irritating, they really should have shot that Minmey person, but then again taste difference from each and every person.

You really should watch the three unrelated story as it is unrelated story, I rather view as a future of Robotech each serie bring you to a future of Robotech rather one whole storyline. I really don't care about continuity as long as they bring it right, it might as well be an alternate story to me. If people can't see it that way than I really feel sorry for them. Missing out on a great epic saga.

Just because I prefer Robotech doesn't mean I think any less of Macross Plus. Macross Plus is well just a small part of Robotech. I like the new Valkery designs, but they where actually rip off of my favorite real life plains anyway. YF19 is an F29 and the YF21 is and F23 both experimental stealth fighter didn't make it. The US went for the F22 lightning Design, which is also a great design. My favorite Valkery would be the YF21, since it is mind control, and that should have given it a big advantage over normal planes, but that just depends on the pilot mental stability and it is still in test phage so they probably haven't refined its system yet.

The Macross Saga for me. I'm talking about the REAL Macross Saga not the 1st Gen of Robotech. Plus is a close second. I also say that the YF-19 is the best plane.

I'm voting for the Macross saga of Robotech,just because I haven't seen Macross in its original form....yet.I'm sure that if I had though,I would be voting for it instead.Macross Plus was good,but it just didn't have the same magic as the original Macross had
